Weekly Wrap-Up + A Walk in the Park
We knew this workshop was going to yield some amazing inspiration for brides ever since we mentioned here a few weeks ago. Styled by Sugar and Fluff, who you may remember from this feature — we’re delighted to say they’re back again to share their amazing “A Walk in the Park” inspired shoot. This time, they’ve brought 1960s inspiration and colorful smoke bombs to the Las Vegas desert for some ingenious wedding ideas.

From the designer, Aasim of Sugar and Fluff: Our shoot is a moment in time as a mother and daughter step out to lunch at Central park in 1962. To contrast the barren desert and give our environment some context, we brought elements of the park through statement pieces and accents, like the black park bench and lamp, garden doll furniture, and a stone urn filled with ranunculus.

Heavily inspired by the 1960’s pop culture, we took elements of film, television and books and brought them into the shoot, with classics like Hitchcock’s The Birds and Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Through our inspiration, we extracted a double complementary color scheme with tints of magenta, green, yellow and blue. Because the sixties pays tribute to the debut of color in media, we really wanted to amplify the colors set in the washed out desert–which was done through the use of jewel tones in wardrobe and design. Another fun activity we brought to the shoot were smoke bombs to add a screen of color.

The biggest challenge was to incorporate elements of metropolitan life of New York and Los Angeles in a desolate space. We achieved this through the use of graphic design and papered goods.

We loved the concept of a newspaper with proposal announcements and a bridal digest, but in the colors from our shoot. The idea could also be incorporated into a reception or wedding announcement. Another element we brought to the shoot was food packaging. The most iconic moment of Breakfast at Tiffany’s is when Holly Golightly is strolling by Tiffany’s with her greek coffee cup and croissant. That concept of trademarking a cup was what we wanted to bring to the shoot.
Invitations were simple and tied in with the overall suite. Inspired by invites from the 1960’s and St. Patrick’s Cathedral of New York, we wanted to utilize ornaments of the art deco time period without going overboard. Overall we wanted a dynamic suite that felt cohesive but not repetitive, and share new ideas for your next big event.
