Natural DIY Wedding Favors: Waffle Cone Seedlings

Ice cream Cone Seedlings

If you’ve been following our DIYs for a while, you know that Fiskars is not just about their signature orange scissors. And with Earth Day on the horizon, we couldn’t help but to dream up some DIY wedding favors to go along with the theme. Once we “dug in” to their crazy good section for gardening tools, our imagination ran wild. We figured waffle cone seedlings were a totally unique way to marry summer with going green, and the result is pretty darn cute if we do say so ourselves.

We chose to plant pansies, but you can use whatever flower variety you’d like! Maybe you have a favorite, or there’s one that has special significance to you as a couple, or maybe you want to pay homage to a loved one with the flower that speaks to them. Simply scoop some soil into a plastic divided tray, drop a seedling or two into each compartment, and follow package instructions to water + grow. You’ll want to give these babies sun love (ha)!

Once they’ve grown, you can transfer each mini plant to a jumbo ice cream cone. Pay special attention to the height and width, as you may want to remove some of the rooted soil and shape before you transfer. We used the Fiskars Soil Scoop during this part of the process.

You can hardly call it a chore – it’s so easy to do! Give your mini plants a facelift by pruning some of the runaway leaves using the Fiskars PowerGear Pruner, though your finished product can be as clean or as wild as you’d like.
