DIY Woodland Terrariums

Terrariums are easy to make and perfect as gifts, so it’s a great candidate for wedding favors. I found these mini bell jars at American Bridal and they were just the perfect size and shape. I mean, they were practically born to be made terrariums with. Some of the materials can be found right in your own backyard!

Instructions

Break off a piece of bark that fits under the mini cloche. Measure the length of the twigs so they fit under the bell jar. I found bark and twigs from fallen branches in my backyard, but you can also use other medium to cover the bottom of the jar like dirt, gravel or sand.

Glue the twig on the bark. Place it on the bell jar tray, add gravel and moss as desired.

How to make mini clay mushrooms:

To make these mini mushrooms, roll a piece of clay to form the stem. Then insert a piece of wire that is slightly longer than the stem through it (I just used leftover wire from a art frame, but the gauge doesn’t need to be thick). This will securely attach the top of the mushroom since these little guys tend to be a bit top heavy. To form the top, start out by rolling a ball. Slowly form your shape pulling the sides down a bit, forming a “hat”. Remember imperfect is a good thing! Place the final top on the stem and bake for a few minutes (these are tiny, so they don’t go in the oven for long). The little birdie is even easier to make: form a ball and shape it in a slightly round Z! Make the eyes with the help of a toothpick and add a little beak. Let them cool and paint. After you have your mushroom, birds and woodland creatures ready, glue them onto the bark. It’s a cute pop of color and whimsy to a terrarium.
