Old Mac Daddy Wedding
South Africa has long been one of our favorite destinations, especially since it seems they churn out stylish wedding after stylish wedding. Dearheart Photos was in charge of capturing the beautiful day of Cornelia and Paul, a darling couple wanting an ice cream colored summer wedding. What they ended up with certainly fit the bill, right down to the peek of yellow tulle under the bride’s wedding gown!
From the bride, Cornelia: We wanted an ice cream coloured, relaxed, summer wedding party. Our guests could enjoy the celebration with yummy food, good wine and amazing music. We also wanted to include friends and people that we knew in the event- a friend made my dress, another friend headed the jazz band, friends played the ceremony music and friends helped us in all the DYI jobs. From the start of our wedding planning, we wanted a relaxed wedding in a beautiful environment. We had a number of friends coming from overseas and family from far away for the wedding, so we wanted to stretch the celebration over a weekend, to make the most of their visits. Our venue, Old Mac Daddy, was the perfect option as it is set on a beautiful apple farm in the Elgin valley. It also offers the coolest Airstream caravans with interiors done by artists — so much fun and beauty!
Bouquet recipe: Milkwood bachelor’s balls, Brunia neglecta, Echeveria elegance, Chincherinchees, Senecio scaposus, airplants, etc.
Our colours were shades of yellow, minty blues, misty grey and touches of bright blood orange. The wedding had a handmade, modern feel, with some fox inspired accents. My husband and I and a number of very good friends made all the paper flowers, pinwheels, origami foxes, confetti, place mats, invitations and many more items over the course of six months before the wedding. The making was loads of fun, but if it became too much hard work cutting out petals and the glue gun fumes became overpowering, we had champagne breaks. 🙂
Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Enjoy the planning of the wedding, it is such a wonderful time to connect and spend time with family and friends. Include friends and family in the making of items- it’s fun and saves time. Our families were amazing, especially my Mom, to help source for accessories and various materials for all the handmade items. Try to stick to a proper budget- we had to update our excel spreadsheet continuously! We’d recommend staying over at the wedding venue, and getting ready at the venue, it is reduces the stress of travelling around. Also, never pay service providers 100% in advance! 🙁
