Barr Mansion Texas Wedding

It’s no secret we love weddings from Austin’s Barr Mansion here at Ruffled. It has the perfect mix of old world charm and funky whimsy we can never get enough of! Photographer Lauren Larsen captured Ashley and Jason’s wedding day expertly, along with the talents of The Nouveau Romantics and Vera Green Productions. We’re madly in love with the bride’s gorgeous short number!

From the bride, Ashley: I really let the setting dictate a lot more of the style than I thought I would. I always knew our southern roots and my vintage-modern aesthetic would play a large role whatever the venue. We always wanted the occasion to feel comfortable, but never casual.

Even though fall really doesn’t begin until November in Texas (or at least it doesn’t feel like it does!), I really wanted to play up a fall wedding. I did this through the color choices of my flowers and bridesmaids dresses and through our menu planning. I had a beautiful deep aubergine with a punch of chartreuse in mind for colors. When I found the perfect bridesmaid dress to base everything around I knew it was meant to be.

The escort cards with the handkerchiefs were something I nabbed from another wedding. We actually ended up “making” many of the kerchiefs from great fabric we found at a quilting store in Austin. I hand-wrote the escort cards while my bridesmaids cut the fabric and tided the ribbons and my florist added the finishing touch with the buds. It was quite the team effort. my wonderful groom also designed the menus that we placed on the tables.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Figure out what’s really important to the two of you from the beginning. For example: food and drink were a big deal to Jason and I. We knew we wanted to spend a large portion of our budget there. Remember that photos are forever, no one will remember if you chose the less expensive champagne (as long as you don’t run out!) Take the week off before your wedding if you can. You’ll be amazed at the last minute things that pop up, and you’ll want some time to transition out of work mode.
