Palace Ballroom Wedding
If your life is missing a heavy dose of glam, then a few looks at this wedding from Ryan Flynn Photography and McKenzie Powell is just what the doctor ordered. Gold sequin tablescapes, vintage stoles, a luxe satin wedding gown all conspire to make this Seattle wedding one of the prettiest we’ve seen yet!
From the bride, Liz: When planning our wedding I really wanted to create a day where all of our family and friends could come together to celebrate Jake and I in a beautiful setting with great food and good drinks. I’d say we definitely achieved this. The day came together even better than I could’ve imagined. It was so filled with love, laughter, and cheer. It’s really hard to choose just one favorite part, but sitting down for the delicious dinner surrounded by all of our loved ones was probably my favorite moment. We chose to get married at Palace Ballroom because we love Tom Douglas’ food, and the menu designed for our wedding did not disappoint. Everything from the beet salad we started out with, the black cod and steak we ate as the main course, to the dessert bar we finished off the night with was so delicious. It was so special to share our favorite food with our family and friends surrounded by so much love on our wedding day.
All of the small details that went into our wedding made it special. I wanted our wedding to feel collected and personalized with an art deco style, through the details we achieved that aesthetic. From the lace robes my mom made for my bridesmaids and me, the runner my sister hand painted, the different bridesmaids dresses that matched each of their personalities perfectly, the vintage gold brooch I wore in my hair that belonged to my great-grandmother, to the black cod entrée we served at dinner (my husband is a commercial fisherman for black cod) our wedding felt so personalized. McKenzie Powell really worked with us to achieve this feel too, her centerpieces of collected vases, candles, and winter flowers set against the sequin tablecloths looked so magical. Our guests are still raving about how beautiful of a job she did.
Also, getting married with the city of Seattle as our backdrop was really meaningful to us. Jake and I are high school sweethearts and both Seattle natives, we both really love our city and it has been the setting for most of our relationship. Our wedding ended up being on the day of the NFC championship game between the Seahawks and 49ers. It felt like thousands of people descended on the city not only for the game, but also for our wedding. There was a lot of tension among guests as the game went on throughout the ceremony and cocktail hour. During the cocktail hour my Grandpa was listening to the game on the radio through headphones and yelled “Interception!” letting all of our guests know that Richard Sherman made the interception in the last minute to win the game. After the win everyone relaxed and it was time to let loose and celebrate. While it’s not really ideal to have your wedding during a major sporting event, it ended up being a good story and the win just ended up adding to the excitement of the day.
