Zilker Park Clubhouse Wedding
I can never say it enough — we love our creative brides and grooms. Monica and Juan’s Texas wedding was full of color and fiesta-themed accents, from the papel picado designed by the groom to the Mexican inspired table runners for the reception. Ivy Weddings and Petals Ink Florist were the perfect team to capture the day and deck it out in stunning floral design!
From the bride, Monica: My husband and I both knew that we wanted something fun and casual to celebrate our big day. We wanted to create a memorable day for not only ourselves, but for our loved ones as well! We chose Zilker Clubhouse as our venue for its laid back Austin vibe, and its stunning Austin view. We provided a photo booth with plenty of props and my father made lawn games for our guests to enjoy. My husband and I pored over idea after idea. We chose our ceremony readings and marriage vows very carefully. We worked a lot of late hours throughout the process and in the end, we feel that our guests had as much fun at our wedding as we had fun planning! Some of the best words to describe the look of our wedding would be bright, bold, and fun. We went with a “fiesta” theme that included colors such as purple, pink, orange, yellow, aqua, and green. We didn’t shy away from color, that’s for sure! But we were also careful not to work against what natural beauty our venue had to offer. I gave a color swatch to my bridesmaids and asked them to pick a dress that closely matched the fabric color and I made sure to coordinate their shoe colors to match the groomsmen’s ties.
Bouquet recipe: fuchsia stock flowers, mini green hydrangeas, icelandic poppies, gerber daisy, tulips, craspedia, free spirit garden rose, and succulents.
My husband worked from a few designs he saw online to create our “papel picado” wedding invitations. He even included our dog in the design! He spent a few hours at a laser cutting studio (MakeATX) creating our invitations. For groomsmen’s gifts he created an individual emblem for each groomsman which he had etched onto the glass of the beer growlers he got each of them. Instead of using real flowers for decorations, we decided to hand-make hundreds of tissue paper pom-poms to hang around the venue, individually and as garland. My husband created our “love birds” cake toppers from clay and we decorated them to look like what we’d be wearing on our wedding day. My mother and her friend sewed every table runner from the fabric she bought in Mexico. We wanted to incorporate this beautiful city where we fell in love so instead of traditional table numbers we chose Austin landmarks and a bunch of our favorite places to designate sitting. For example, some of our guests sat at “The State Capitol” table or the “Barton Springs” table. We used pictures of each venue or location, and printed them onto paper specifically made for table tents. For the guest name cards we used blank business cards to print their names. The business cards can be bought with the perforations already created so they were easy and quick to cut apart.
Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Practical Advice: It sounds cliché but don’t sweat the small stuff. There are many things that you can’t control and that’s okay! “…every little thing is gonna be alright…” Advice from the Heart: You will receive plenty of solicited and unsolicited advice. Some of it will be helpful but it can get to be overwhelming. There will be a lot of opinions about how you “should” be doing something. And someone is bound to get upset. Please remember that, ultimately, your wedding day is about you (the couple)! Do what feels right for your wedding!

Wedding Music:
Bridal Party Processional: “I’m Yours,” Vitamin String Quartet (Jason Mraz)
Bride’s Processional: “Longing to Belong,” Eddie Vedder
Recessional: “When We’re Together,” Joshua Radin
First Dance: “I Got You,” Jack Johnson
Aside from the key songs that we chose, we didn’t really play too much with the reception music. Our friend Rob was the DJ and he did a great job of feeling out the crowd and playing songs that everyone enjoyed!
