Woodsy Lake Tahoe Wedding

This Lake Tahoe wedding captured by Connection Photography is giving us wanderlust fever. The couple infused the groom’s Scottish heritage into their wedding and the color palette, which was inspired by the groom’s family’s tartan, blended in perfectly with the magical woodsy destination by the lake. From Connection Photography: Joanne and Chris were married in South Lake Tahoe at the beautiful Valhalla venue! Chris is Scottish and they used green and blue as their color palette. The Groomsmen wore kilts and the girls wore maxi dresses in shades of dark blue and green. It looked amazing amongst the tall trees around Valhalla! We were able to take some epic drone photos throughout the day and the sunset was unreal. Joanne’s wedding dress was designed by Enzoani. We also put together a little drone video of the day as well!

From the couple, Joanne and Chris: We knew we wanted to get married in South Lake Tahoe – it is our home away from home. We instantly fell in love with the venue and the rest seemed to fall into place. It is nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains with a lake view – nothing can beat the scenery. We were never able to find the right words to describe our theme/inspiration– it is just us. The wedding colors corresponded with the Campbell of Argyle tartan – dark blue, emerald green and silver/gray.

Nearly all of the decorations were from our house, borrowed from friends and family, or DIY (there was a lot). Some of the DIY projects included our invitations, table numbers, the favors, the bar, wedding arch, lawn games, various signs and accent decorations. Even without a specific theme or inspiration, our vendors were able to create beautiful pieces for our wedding. They absolutely nailed it; our vendors were worth their weight in gold. Our amazing wedding cake baker recreated the intricate embellishments from my dress onto the cakes!

Our ceremony was a blend of a tradition of personal touch, from Scottish handfasting to our officiant who had introduced us. During the cocktail hour guests had a chance to jump in our slow-motion video booth or play lawn games while two bagpipers played. We had originally thought about having traditional Scottish wedding games but thought it would be a little dangerous to have armatures throwing hammers and flipping logs the size of trees.

After a delicious dinner of tri-tip, pork, asparagus and most importantly mac and cheese – some of our closest family and friends gave the most beautiful and heartfelt speeches (with lots of tissues) we moved to cake cutting and dancing inside the beautiful hall. Everyone danced until their feet hurt. The day was a beautiful whirlwind, and everything came together wonderfully. We wanted to be surrounded by friends and family having the time of our lives – the day was perfect.
