Winter Wedding In NYC With Exquisite Gilded Age Flair
Alexandra and Dan’s winter wedding in NYC is overflowing with sentiment. Not only did the bride carry a cascading bouquet and wear an heirloom headpiece as a nod to her great grandmother’s wedding, the couple ultimately decided on the grand, former bank venue, built in the Gilded Age, for its history as the grandmother of the groom’s workplace when she was a bank secretary. Polka Dot Events crafted every beautiful detail with intention, from the color palette to the dinner china, and matched with the insane floral talents of Ruffled vendor, Designs by Ahn, A+D’s unique Oculus wedding is brimming with eye-catching details. Behind the lens is Samm Blake Photography who captured every heartwarming detail with the most artistic + authentic glow. See what we mean in the gallery below!
From the wedding planner, Polka Dot Events: Aside from the WOW factor of Weylin with its incredible domed fresco ceilings and mosaic marble floors, the former Williamsburg Savings Bank in Brooklyn was also once the place of employment for Dan’s (the groom) great-grandmother where she worked as a bank secretary. Between their family history and love for vintage and historic design – it was clear that Weylin was the perfect venue for Alexandra and Dan’s Brooklyn winter wedding.
Alex and Dan knew they wanted their wedding design to highlight the beauty of the architecture of the space built during the Gilded Age with the use of color and design used in late 19th to early 20th century weddings. The design team at Polka Dot Events did some research into old photo archives and come up with a color palette that included Old World Ivory/Cream, Jade, Emerald, Blush, Lavender, Marsala, Wine, Brassy Gold, Champagne. The colors also fit perfectly with the winter date.
Floral was a combination of dramatic and romantic as Designs by Ahn created a giant floral chuppah that could be seen into from all sides of the circular Oculus, and the bride’s bouquet was full and cascading to match her great-grandmothers wedding picture. Alex also wore the very headpiece worn in that picture!
For Dinner and dancing tables were draped with a dusty rose velvet linen and decorated with brass candelabras and an ivy runner with touches of gilded leaves and pinecones. Round tables were set with lush floral in vintage brass vessels. Pursale Catering served their sustainable cuisine on vintage white and gold china and vintage glassware and flatware.
Alex and Dan highlighted their Jewish heritage with fun moments, like the word ‘Mazel’ written on their bar and handed out socks/yarmulkes engraved with ‘Love you Lox!’
