The Decemberists Inspiration Shoot
When I heard that Atlanta-based event stylist Juli Vaughn Designs was planning on doing a series of shoots based around individual inspiring designs, I couldn’t contain my excitement. For this shoot, she invited Sean & Amanda Photography for a shoot inspired by this poster from The Decemberists. Love.
From the event stylist and designer, Juli of Juli Vaughn Designs: My absolute favorite thing about being a wedding designer is fashioning an event around two people. A wedding is the celebration of two lives and what they love individually, as well as collectively. It’s always a privilege to create an entire event that will leave guests saying, “That was just so ‘them.’” It isn’t about being thematic or trendy but communicating the essence of their love and who they are. At a consultation, I get a glimpse – a snippet – of a person. It is much like finding an image on Pinterest that inspires you enough to save it. There are things in that image that speak to you and pop out as solid inspiration.
In keeping with that idea, I wanted to create a series of inspirational shoots that take one image – just like one couple – and build an entire event around it. This shoot is the premier and is from one of my favorite Pinterest images. It is a poster for the musical group The Decemberists. It plays with light and dark, high color contrasts, and the prettiest combination of Bohemia and Gothic that I have ever seen in an image. The couple is a lovely contrast between straight-laced and free-spirited. The giant “Light Bright” backdrop is a little bit of modern mixed in with graceful, abundant florals. From that inspiration, I gathered some incredibly creative vendors in the Atlanta area to contribute their talents to what we feel is a stunning work in delightful contrasts.

Love their idea for a design concept, not to mention the jewel tones!
A great mix of modern style and vintage touches. Very well balanced.
Comment: Excellent collection of shots! Each image is better than the one before it. It’s strange that the pictures come off “dark” but everything is still very colorful. Great post!
Just stunning,moody and deep! Love!
