Sophisticated City Wedding Ideas
Metallics, and gold in particular, always seem perfect for ringing in the New Year, don’t they? Add in some emerald elements (the 2013 Pantone Color of the Year, in case you were wondering), and you’ve got a rich color palette and variety of textures we’re completely wild about. Amanda and her team at MMD Events worked all sorts of wonders in creating an incredibly sophisticated styled shoot, photographed here by Kismis Ink Photography!
From the event stylist, Amanda of MMD Events: We wanted to do something that had the rich deep tones of fall/winter without being themed towards the seasons. I love gold – so I knew it would have a ton of gold – but besides that I really wanted to blend tones and patterns into a rich mosaic. Too often I think that things are “one note,” but in my mind there is plenty of room for chevron, animal prints, paisley, butterflies – all together without any one element over shadowing another. That’s what I was trying to achieve here – a blend of amazing over the top elements.
I did the same thing with color – we had cream, black, brown, gold, burgundy, eggplant, bright green, orange, peach, navy and copper. Too often people feel locked into two colors for their wedding. For the flowers – I love all the flowers that become available from Holland this time of year – so I started with amazing deep toned amaryllis and multi colored parrot tulips, from there I added Charlie Brown mini cymbidium orchids, pale peach Juliet garden roses, striking bright purple beauty berries and soft green pepper berries. I love adding soft peach to deep jewel tones – it lightens things up and makes things lovely and feminine.
I used multiple tones of glitter and covered simple inexpensive glass pieces – shot glasses, pillar candle holders, water glasses and prep containers – to create glamorous containers for flowers and candles. I designed a gold and ivory chevron wall paper covered feasting table with large black iron pedestal legs – I loved the idea of no linens. I used traditional French bistro chairs to add interest. Instead of chargers we created amazing place settings with moss green napkins pinched into a bow with copper sequin napkin bands, amazing glitter menus and champagne glasses with glitter stirrers.
The final touch for me were the gold animals – I think that whimsical accents like gold animals act like salty and sweet. When you bake you use salt so the sugar tastes sweeter. In decorating – a bit of weirdness make the beautiful things more beautiful. The bar was custom designed to match the ceiling of the Vault – such a unique venue. The dramatic elephant leaves in ivory urns created a stylish back bar at an affordable price – and the lounge was the icing on the cake. Event lounge furniture never looks like something you would place in your home – why is that? – it should be trendy and stylish and detail oriented. Current event lounge collections are too generic.
With the models and the wardrobe we really wanted to create something special – we were blessed to have amazing clothiers come to our aid – the bridal gown by Nicole Miller was just stunning in sleek metallic copper, the two bridesmaids were outfitted in chic ready to wear with amazing shoes. We wanted to reflect how modern stylish bridesmaids prefer to dress. Our incredible hair and makeup team was so amazing – right down to the over the top manicures – the chic polish made things so current. Our paper products were so glittery and so amazing – the soft color was perfect! Our amazing painted wedding cake on the gorgeous cranberry glass pedestal was literally the icing on the cake. Finally our wedding planning team was so helpful – I don’t know why a bride would try to do without…
