Vintage Scottish Wedding

Vintage and sweet, this Scottish wedding with a tear-jerker video by CineMate, was a lovely union between two people who most certainly fell in love at first sight. The groom looked dapper in his traditional kilt, while the bride was simply stunning in lace. Bagpipes were played and tears of happiness were surely shed in the Scottish countryside that day.

From the bride, Lisa: When we first started the planning process, one of the ideas was to have a day where it’s like a “big family dinner party”, only quite a bit longer and a bit fancier than your usual dinner party. But it was important to us that everyone felt comfortable and enjoyed the day as much as we knew we would! With our 75 people guest list, including most of Chris’s family in Scotland, my family & our friends who we consider family…made the day a very special and intimate one, exactly what we wanted. We envisioned it to be a very classic & timeless day, and while having our wedding in Scotland, we could actually keep things more simple & classic and let the surroundings speak for themselves! And Scotland was especially stunning on the day of with all the sun shine, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.

We chose a nice soft palette with mostly neutral colors and pinks. We added touches of metallics (gold/silver), from the wedding stationary to the table setting and other various places. And we loved the touch of navy/blues with the bridesmaids dresses, and the print on the wedding stationary & decor pillows, which all tide in nicely with the Traditional Highland Dress that the men were wearing. Overall we wanted everything to be very soft & romantic, however we threw in some fun touches from the colorful glassware for cocktail hour to the bright colored coffee/tea cups for post dinner. We also had welcome tote bags made for all the guests traveling abroad from the States & we filled them with local goodies and an itinerary. And we bought scarves for the ladies to keep & use at the wedding since the evenings got a little chilly. I wanted to make sure our guests felt taken care of….our day was for them as well & for them to all know we how much we appreciate each one of them.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? If you’re planning a destination wedding, I do recommend a great wedding planner that lives in the area, so they can be there during every step of the way when you’re not able to be. Ours helped us out tremendously, as did Chris’s parents who live in Scotland. We couldn’t have done it without all of them! Also, remember to take moments to really enjoy the planning process, because it’s normal to become a little stressed out… just stop, take a breath, remember the big picture… and smile.
