Tropical Holiday Wedding Ideas
As beautiful as snow-topped trees are (and we certainly never tire of looking at them), we know that ‘winter holiday’ doesn’t exactly translate to visions of snowmen and scarves everywhere. Happily, Miranda of Sugar(ed) Event Design and Planning and Jonathan Connolly Photography are here to show us how more tropical climates approach the holiday season!
From the event stylist, Miranda of Sugar(ed) Event Design and Planning: Living in South Florida, sometimes the “typical” holiday decor feels a little out of place. When it’s 80 degrees outside, pinecones and red berries don’t really work! I was inspired by the concept of a tropical holiday wedding–lush green vegetation, a fabulous outdoor setting, twinkling lights and lots of sparkle. Casa Carby was the perfect setting, a charming guest house in the heart of Miami with a beautiful terrace and unique decor. Taking my cues from the slightly unkempt allure of a sultry tropical garden, the tablescape incorporated lots of wild green foliage in addition to bold flowers and tropical fruits (gilded, to add extra oomph!), gold flatware and patterned china.
Tropical flavors inspired the signature drinks and the coconut-crusted wedding cake. The bridal fashion was chosen as a radiant contrast to the setting. The bride dazzled in two distinct sequined floor-length gowns and glittery emerald jewelry, perfect for catching the twinkling lights. We created a beautifully simple ceremony backdrop by dangling strands of lights from a long tree branch. The lights provided a soft glow, lighting up the faces of the bride and groom and reflecting off the water. A sparkler-topped cake was a fun way to add to the festive atmosphere and gave the night a little extra glow.
