Sustainable Smog Shoppe Wedding

We’re so excited to share with you all today’s wedding from one of our favorite venues, LA’s The Smog Shoppe. Photographed by the ever-talented Katie Osgood and coordinated by Sweet Emilia Jane, Frances and Patrick (also known as “Fratrick” by their close friends) had a stunning eco-friendly day packed with succulents, chalkboard, and endless help from talented friends and family members.

From the bride, Frances: We wanted to be married in LA during the spring, have an accessible outdoor venue + caterer that accommodated the whole event + incorporated sustainability. The Smog Shoppe + Thyme were perfect!

Little decoration was needed because so much was already there. We incorporated geographic elements into our wedding through our wedding invitations that doubled as a map, and with our seating chart and tables. Each tabled was named after a state we had both visited over the years. Our favors were the DIY coaster project and the potted succulents that guests could take home to use or plant in their garden.

We hired Sweet Emilia Jane so she could help guide our vision. She referred us to several vendors and because of her, Patrick and I were able to enjoy our wedding with our friends and family members.

We wanted to honor our wedding partyโ€™s individuality so the groomsmen wore their own suits and I picked Coralie Beatrix dresses so my bridesmaids could choose their own style and wear it again and Patrick’s was custom tailored. Throughout the entire planning process, I had a litany of friends offer me their services that included, but not limited to, hair + hair piece, makeup, bouquets, vendor referrals, and chalkboards. All the details of our wedding could be tied to someone generously giving their time or talent which made the day truly special.

  • Thanks for sharing your beautifully intimate wedding story.
Can you point me to a source for the mini green chalkboards used on the tables?

  • Hi! This is the bride ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you so much for featuring our lovely wedding on Ruffled!

For anyone else that is curious: The chalkboards are considered vintage, and they’re from a company called Ideal School Supply Company, chalkboard no. 3428. My sister actually lent them to me from her classroom, so they’re always in use ๐Ÿ™‚

DC Wedding Photographer: Thank you for the compliments on the details. We tried to keep our details simple and functional since our venue didn’t need much decorating!

  • I like the necklace the brides wears, but what I like most is the green wedding flowers and green bridesmaid dresses. They are my favorite color.

  • Really lovely wedding. I am loving the printed maps on the invitations (very cute) and the table plan with the map and pins is a great idea!
