Rustic Upstate New York Wedding
Almost every bit of this wedding from Jessica OH Photography was crafted with love by the bride, her mother, and the groom – and it shows through the truly personal and intimate nature of the wedding day. A little bit of rustic, some quirkiness, and full creativity make this wedding all that it is – perfection!
From the bride, Tammy: After all the dust settled and it hit me that I had to start planning my wedding the choices were overwhelming, but at the core of it all I knew I wanted a wedding that was intimate, rustic, a little quirky, filled to the brim with fun creative details and added elements of surprises for my guests! I wanted it to be a memorable experience. As a child, every weekend my family and I would congregate at my grandmother’s house to feast at one long dinner table, so for me the idea of capturing the essence of that communal dining experience was a great inspiration for me. Everything all sort of transpired when I found my location! It was the raw space that would allow my creativity to run wild! Finding the barn at Rufflands Farm was like finding my perfect canvas.
My color scheme was light grey, dusty pink, with natural undertones. I wanted everything to feel natural and organic, but romantic. DIY projects and small tokens of love were dotted throughout the event: Each guest received a personalized handwritten note tied to a handmade felt heart upon arrival. The canvas covered hay bale seats were made by everyone of our family members. The welcome program, menu cards, and all stationary were designed by the groom and I. The heart string table numbers were made by the groom and I, as well as our paper mache piggy bank! Oh…and, the little bunting initials used for each place seating were also handmade by the Bride, with the help my awesome new Brother-in-Law ;). Pretty much all the little details were handmade or found in thrift shops and flea markets.
Favorite moment of the day: Leading up to the wedding is riddled with excitement, anxiety, the unknown as to whether or not you’re actually going to pull off the vision you’ve spent that past few months planning! There were so many details involved I couldn’t possibly list them all, but it was a lot of work! From the months of crafting leading up to the wedding to lugging bales of hay to the tables day of, the support from family and friends coming together to bring the vision to life is really so humbling! I just remember walking into the barn and everything was breathtaking! It was everything my hubby and I could have ever imagined! We’re just so grateful!
Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Everyone always tells you to just enjoy the day, it’s going to fly by! And, they couldn’t be more on point! Honestly, there is so much more to the day, there are months of planning! It can definitely be super stressful and overwhelming, but seeing it all come together will be an amazeballz experience. If I could say one thing I would say to enjoy the process! For me I was inspired daily, coming up with new DIY concepts, more and more details to incorporate! Have fun with it and your guests will!
