North Arm Farm Wedding
How can you go wrong with a bride who wants her wedding attire styled after a classic Grace Kelly gown? Natasshia has always loved the stylish white dress worn by Grace in To Catch a Thief, so Ivy & Aster’s “Oh Joy” was a perfect pick to duplicate the look. The Nickersons captured Natasshia in just this gown and the rest of the day’s festivities with her love, Garrett. Let’s dive in!
From the bride, Natasshia: I wanted our day to be the best day ever with lots of our personality shining through all the little details! It started out with finding the perfect venue! We love the mountains and we couldn’t have asked for a better background! It was important to us to keep things local. From the food, to the beers, and even the homemade jam as wedding favours. We wanted our guests to genuinely have a great time, making it as memorable for them as it was for us! I’ve always loved that scene in “To Catch a Thief” with Grace Kelly and knew that my dress would be of similar style. I went with Ivy & Aster’s Oh Joy dress, a clean and classic silhouette. I was pleased to find out that it had pockets! I did minimal accessorizing but had fun by choosing Badgley Mischka’s Randall shoes in rose satin!
A majority of the decor was actually handmade — from the wedding invitations, signage, centerpieces, bow ties, and the bouquets too! To cut down costs, I proposed we make our bouquets too. Garrett was such a good sport about agreeing on all my ideas even if it meant he had to do a lot of work! We started with a few prototypes, playing with different papers which we ended up using as our centerpieces. Once we got our technique down, we perfected the bridesmaids’ bouquets as well as mine! I’ve been practicing my calligraphy and wanted to incorporate some of it for the day of. I hand painted the welcome sign, directions, menu, seating chart, as well as signs for the drinks and dessert table. We finished them off by hanging with yarn and branches.
Favourite moments from the day included waking up to the sound of the rain outside the window, but it didn’t matter because I was getting married to the man I love! As we were getting ready, I got a text from our coordinator saying “The sun is winning!”. The rest of the day was perfect and you’d never know it rained that morning! Right before he walked me down the aisle, my dad gave me a huge hug and kiss – which got me even more emotional. Also, sitting back together as husband and wife, and watching all our friends and family that came to celebrate with us.
Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t underestimate your future husband’s crafting skills! If he really loves you he’ll put as much effort in as he can – it’s his wedding too! You never know what his DIY abilities are until you put him to the test. Don’t stress out about trying to make other people happy. This day is all about both of you, the main reason your guests are coming is to see you! And finally, get yourself a day-of-coordinator! It makes the day run smoothly and leaves you with no worries so you can have the best time ever!
