Moody Black and White Wedding Ideas
Let’s just say we’ve never seen a black and white wedding setting we didn’t like. This one, captured by Abigail Bobo Photography and styled by Sage Nines Event Production is no exception. They took a moody approach with this classic color duo and the results are absolutely scrumptious.
From the event and floral designer, Sage Nines Event Production: The inspiration behind this shoot came from a favorite black and ivory tapestry that I found. I love that black is making such a comeback in weddings, but wanted to feature it in an edgy and less formal setting than I have typically seen it. Our bride and groom models, Brittainy and Brandon, are married in real life but had eloped to Mexico, so it was a perfect opportunity for them to get dressed up again and enjoy having Abigail Bobo capture some more sweet images of them! Brittainy wore a stunning two piece dress by Bo and Luca from The Dress Theory, which was a perfect blend of elegance and edge. We dressed the maids in all black, which gave me the liberty to go in any direction with the florals. I literally had no preconceived notions about a color palette and just went with what looked amazing at the wholesaler that week, which turned out to be white anemones with black centers, orange ranunculus, and coral charm peonies.
Because black is paired with gold so frequently, I wanted to do something a bit unexpected, so we mostly used nickel and gunmetal finishes, which gave the setting a more industrial look. The stationery was one of my favorite elements of the shoot, and actually the first part that I designed. I love the modern calligraphy look that is so popular right now, but wanted to add some interest to the standard flat panel invitation. I ended up with a black velvet pocket embellished with metal that held the informal note style invitation with deckled edges, and a black envelope with a flocked liner. Caitlin at Charley Whiskey Calligraphy did a beautiful job of hand lettering the note and addressing the envelope. We had a great team of both vendors and models that day who all had a blast with this shoot, and Abigail’s images capture really capture that energy and drive home the point that intimate weddings really are the best kind!
