Modern Austin Wedding with a Playful Twist

Jessica and Vin’s wedding is a classic study on how to blend a couple’s style while still maintaining cohesiveness and ending up with a captivating wedding to boot. Sunny 16 Photography and Pollen Floral Design brought their A-game to this wedding day, which has fun animal figurines (lots of dinosaurs) and touches of peach and orange against a modern backdrop.

From the bride, Jessica: If you ask your fiance to help come up with wedding theme ideas, just be prepared for some strange recommendations: video games, superheroes… dinosaurs. Vin & I really wanted the evening to be elegant and romantic, yet still reflect our playful personalities. Dinosaurs, which Vin has loved and collected since childhood, ended up being a whimsical and irreverent way of adding our own personal touch to the evening. We gilded plastic toy dinos (and other animals) with gold paint to serve as escort cards. Our guests loved them so much that at the end of the night, we found many of them creatively arranged in our florals, while others eventually found their way into our friends’ homes.

Our amazing florist incorporated concrete glass terrariums with colored geodes into our table arrangements, adding a “prehistoric” flavor. We designed and printed our own seating numbers and chart with small animal silhouettes, but used clean fonts and gold accents throughout to keep things classy. My sister & brother in law–both architects–helped lasercut large signs out of plexiglass for professional-looking signage. As a surprise at the end of the night, our friends even took it upon themselves to decorate the getaway car as a Jurassic Park jeep, complete with claw mark decals down the side!

Toward the end of the evening, we snuck away from the festivities for a brief moment to take everything in (highly recommended!). Personalizing and planning the wedding remotely from NY was a TON of work, but it was worth it to see all the small details come together … and to see our most beloved friends and family having an incredible time celebrating and dancing up a storm.
