Malibu Calamigos Ranch wedding
We’ve seen our fair share of wedding venues over the years, but one that always brings a smile to our faces is Malibu’s Calamigos Ranch. Ooh La Love Events and Tenley Erin Young pulled out all the stops for Staci and Evan’s wedding day, skillfully mixing gorgeous floral design with romantic and bohemian elements all captured by She Wanders.
From the bride, Staci: During the planning process, I wanted our wedding to reflect one thing and one thing only – us. Evan and I have a unique story. We were best friends for 8 years before ever dating, so our relationship still has that element intertwined. We wanted everyone to feel at home, and feel like family. We incorporated as many friends as possible into the ceremony, too. Our friend Alex officiated (she got ordained online!), the DJ was one of our closest friends from high school, and the ceremony took place at a location that was close to both of our hearts in our hometown. I’m a writer, so I wanted to incorporate elements of the things I love – quotes, books, vintage typewriters… all that fun stuff. Our florist, Tenley Erin Young did a great job of listening to my vision and making sure that everything made sense.
Our florist is known for her unique aesthetic. Because our venue was so stunning, I didn’t want to take away from its natural beauty. Our flowers were the main source of color with lots of peonies, anemones, garden roses, lavender, and eucalyptus. Growing up, I always dreamed of wearing a big, beautiful floral crown, and Tenely made that happen for myself and my bridesmaids. Our overall color scheme was muted with lots of beige and gold. Blooms were in beautiful urns, brass containers, and wooden crates to add that vintage element. DIY projects included dipping 180 terra cotta pots into silver, gold, and white paint and planting succulents into each. I was able to finish those on a lazy Sunday afternoon with the help of my mom and some amazing girlfriends. Tenley also made the LOVE sign at our dessert bar – so impressive!
Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Two words – be nice! It’s so hard to get caught up in the day (and month’s leading up to it). Evan and I are pretty laid back. I knew what I wanted, but I also wanted the people involved in my special day to feel like I appreciated them and everything they did for me. From the bridesmaids dresses (I chose Stone Cold Fox dresses that I knew they would wear more than once), to the thank you notes, and the little token gifts, I wanted my friends to know how much I loved them for being there for me. I made sure to keep my cool if something didn’t go my way, and just wanted everyone to have fun rather than feel like they were just there for the ride.
