Colorful California Wedding with Whimsy
A burst of color in a wedding is always so eye-catching, and when your entire wedding adds in frequent pops of beautiful colors like Zoë and Patrick’s vibrant California wedding, it’s inevitable that it will just bring a huge smile on your face. Lindsey Gomes Photography sent over this bright day and wow, Something Blue by Katie certainly pulled off designing a wedding around a whimsical color palette. Kudos to Noonan’s Wine Country Designs for the colorful centerpieces with delicate blooms like garden roses, anemones, and ranunculus. This whole wedding is seriously amazing!
From the bride, Zoë: We wanted a little bit of Tennessee in California. Him being from Arizona and I being from California, it made perfect sense right? For us it did. One of our first trips together was to Nashville (we won a world wide Easter egg hunt sponsored by The Grand Ole Opry, crazy!). Tennessee has always held a special place in our heart. But we wanted all of our family to be able to make the day so we needed somewhere closer.
Once we found Thousand Hills Ranch we knew we found the place. It was the perfect combination of rustic elegance that we loved. Then came the decorations. As Patrick knows, if there is a mason jar around, I will buy it and add some burlap and you have a happy Zoe. But we also wanted a nice elegant touch and that is where the lace accents came in. Since the colors were neutrals, we wanted to bring in big pop of color.
My obsession with Papersource is very real and I was staring at the 2015 calendar at my desk at work and the strong corals, the soft blushes, warm yellows, and cool sages were too pretty to pass up and that started the palette. I wanted the bridesmaids to be in those various spring colors and then we matched the flowers to them. And we wanted a lot of texture to go with the burlap and lace so we added succulents and wheat to the flowers.
Patrick and I wanted a wedding that we would have fun at as guests. So every decision from the coffee truck, to the photo booth, to the lawn games stemmed from that. As Patrick and I started putting together the decorations, we wanted unique table markers. We started throwing around ideas and jokingly, we mentioned Little Jimmy Dickens, one of our favorite country stars, and we knew immediately we wanted our favorite country stars as table numbers. How fun would it be to say, “I’m sitting at Dolly Parton, how about you?” We really had no idea how fun the wedding was going to be.
We were always told about how stressful the day was or how fast it would go but we never heard about how absolutely fun and wonderful it would be! The day ended with this amazing moment when a family member came up to us and gave us a hug then someone screamed out “GROUP HUG!!!” All of the sudden, all of our family and friends rushed the dance floor to join as Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” played, to which we all sang along. There was nothing like being surrounded by every person you love celebrating the biggest day of your life. That is a moment we will remember forever.
From the photographer, Lindsey Gomes Photography: Zoë & Patrick live in New York City where he is finishing up production on a movie and she is currently writing a screenplay; coolness alert! We had chatted on the phone, but finally had the chance to meet in San Luis Obispo, California a few days before their wedding! It was instant love! We could have had coffee and chatted all morning. These two are–beyond a doubt–the coolest people, the sweetest couple, and just all around nice human beings. They began to tell me about their plans for their wedding day, and I instantly fell in love! They transformed a barn venue into a cool, chic, eclectic mix of their personalities, with a just a hint of country flare.
From the colors to the vendors, everything just worked perfectly together and their wedding day was something out of a story book that they wrote themselves. Patrick and Zoë were able to create their wedding day to capture who they are as individuals and as a couple! A Dolly Parton table, Tinker Tin Photo Booth Trailer, SLO Coast Coffee at night; they definitely brought Nashville to the California countryside! I love every vendor that helped to create their day and those colors and florals! Ah! So beautiful!
