Contemporary Wedding Inspired By Old World Romance
We’re ecstatic to be sharing this contemporary meets Old World romance story today! We were hooked early on by the painterly cloth backdrop set gracefully inside Alverthrope Manor. The femme, but free florals from Wild Stems are a work of art, and they’re accented beautifully by pops of metallic gold and organic fruits. Edible sugar leaves cascade across the four-tiered confection from top to bottom and we love every single detail captured by the talented Emily Wren.
From the photographer, Emily Wren: “Now and then when we try to create something beautiful, the universe rises up to meet us and everything falls perfectly into place. That sort of serendipity is precisely what happened with our shoot at Alverthorpe Manor.
Initially, we were inspired by the juxtaposed nature of the venue— an old-world estate rich in history that housed contemporary works of art—and we wanted to honor that dichotomy by piecing together traditional and contemporary elements. Wild Stems brought florals that evoked a modern Pre-Raphaelite sensibility in arrangements that looked as though they were lifted straight from one of John William Waterhouse’s Ophelia paintings. Paper goods crafted by Charlie Whiskey Design were highlighted with broad strokes of yellow ochre and soft cerulean, and (to our surprise!) went perfectly with the current gallery exhibit featuring a large scale installation by artist, Alan Greensberg.
In order to let the details shine, the looks for our bride and groom needed to be chic and minimalist— letting structure speak for style. The bride wore a simple yet sophisticated Alexandra Grecco gown with off-the-shoulder ties and a beautiful semi-opaque veil from Melinda Rose Design. As she moved through the varied spaces of the venue, her effortless appearance allowed the surroundings to transform her. Meanwhile, the groom looked fashionably nonchalant in his suit and banded collar shirt from Commonwealth Proper.
We were all so pleased to see how seamlessly the elements of this shoot came together, and I could not have asked for a more talented group of people to work with!”
