Colorful Fort Worth Wedding

We love seeing the special days of actual wedding photographers — these are couples who have seen it all, and know exactly what works and what won’t. Luiz and Lo are two such wedding photographers who threw an amazing day to remember, thanks to the images of Jess Barfield. Take note of the incredible altar backdrop, put together by the bride herself!

From the bride, Lo: I didn’t really have a style in mind when laying out what the wedding would look like. I knew that I wanted it to reflect who Luiz & I were as much as possible. I wanted it to be a collection of all of our favorite things. My friend & bridesmaid Tricia said that the wedding reflected one of my personal outfits; that at the beginning she didn’t know what it was going to look like all put together but at the end it turned out perfect.

The theme was to have no theme. I am not a very matchy-matchy person, so I knew it would just be a cluster of wonderful things & color. The colors that I drift to often are fall colors or shades of blue. So, I decided to combine all of the ones that I love & each girl in my bridal party wore different colors.

I also love to craft. Only sometimes & then I want it to finish itself. But, I knew I wanted my hands in a lot of the details of the wedding. My husband & I are wedding photographers and so we’ve seen a lot of weddings. So, that means I knew what I wanted & didn’t want. I crafted the fabric & paper altarpiece, spray painted antlers & pumpkins gold for the center pieces, painted the table numbers on gold pumpkins, made a wrapped string piece of our initials, hand wrote our chalkboard signs, painted the cacti pots, put together the bouquets, designed the invitation set & programs (Luiz is a graphic designer), made the mix-CD that was the favor, assembled the chicken wire/gold doily seating chart & other small details here & there.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Don’t forget to incorporate your man. This is just as much his day as it is yours. You might think that he doesn’t care, but I bet there are some things that he would love to share his thoughts on besides just the cake flavor.
