A Blue Hydrangea Wedding with Classic Decor & Southern Charm
Katherine and Barrett’s blue hydrangea wedding in Fairhope, Alabama is filled with all the things we love about Southern parties… a penchant for the classics, elegant fashion and an approach to the design that leans towards residential. Jenna Laine Wedding planned a memorable celebration that captured the couple so purely. It was a day filled with lush blooms, an overload of hospitality and above all, worship. One of the key design moments was the mega-sized ceremony backdrop dripping with white orchids in the most storybook way. Kudos to the designer + floral mastermind Wildflowers for bringing that to life! How did you choose your dress?
I thought It would be love at first sight and there would be tears when I found my wedding dress, but that wasn’t the case. The dress I chose was the exact style I thought I didn’t want, strapless and fitted.. My dress was custom made by Míra Zwillinger.
I wanted my dress to have a classic, yet unique feel. Mira did a great job making sure my dress matched that style with a custom lace long sleeve jacket. The moment I put on the finished dress, I had NO doubts!
What was your favorite moment of the wedding day?
Barrett and I share a strong faith and wanted our wedding to be a genuine worship experience.
I surprised Barrett by walking down the aisle to the instrumental version of his favorite worship song, “King of My Heart” by Bethel Music. THIS was undoubtedly my favorite moment of the entire day. Since we didn’t do a first look, meeting his gaze as my father walked me down the aisle literally took my breath away.
From the Designer (Wildflowers):
Katherine wanted a design that was both unique and classic. In our first meeting, I immediately thought about large cabana stripes reminiscent of summer in the Hamptons. We sourced soft seating for the open air deck on property lakeside.
The entire design was based on a custom crafted blue and white striped floor. We kept florals very clean and classic in juxtaposing the playfulness of the stripes.
The cross on the property was important to both Katherine and Barrett and it would be the focal point of the deck. We filled the space with cabana striped linens to correspond with the floor.
We used thousands of stems of blue hydrangeas to soften the space. We chose a cutwork linen as a pop of white under the hydrangea garlands and bring in a little southern nostalgia. For the ceremony, Katherine was keen on a white floral arch by the water.
We proposed the idea of an oversized structured frame … something that would be totally unexpected and an exquisite focal point as guests arrived. It was actually Barrett who liked that idea the most. We love when a groom gets excited about the design!
What a stunning blue hydrangea wedding! We love the way elegance played a key theme from the outdoor ceremony to the tented reception with drum shades and Cabana stripes. Pull off a similar look with these modern wedding drape and unique lighting ideas!
