Contrasting Color Palettes Make for a Glamorous Lanai Wedding

Clara and Elbert chose the most beautiful location in Hawaii to tie the knot with a view of both the mountains and the sea. Swoon. But when she wants pastels and he wants deep jewel tones, how can two contrasting color palettes blend together? Easy, just ask Moana Belle Events and Mandy Grace Designs who beautifully blended these colors into an unforgettable evening. If that’s not a lesson in marriage, then I don’t know what is! Ashley Goodwin Photography was there to capture every glamorous wedding detail from the al fresco ceremony to the elegant ballroom reception in Lanai and we are here. for. it.

How did your fiancé propose?
I was with my best friends at home and they wanted pizza delivery. And there he came undercover as a delivery man with helmet on in a Papa John’s outfit with the pizza! I didn’t recognize his voice because the helmet was still on, but the pizza was way too expensive I had to ask why, and he told me to open the pizza box. There were flower petals, a written card with bride and groom illustration saying “Will you marry me?”, and of course the ring! When I looked up to the delivery guy, he took off his helmet and kneeled down and proposed. I said yes!

How did you choose your wedding venue?
Frankly, I am not a beach person (my husband is) so I was looking more for North Californian coastal/mountain/forest/ranch backgrounds (anything with deserty greens) rather than the cliche palm trees and ocean view. But my husband strongly wanted Hawaii I had to look for a venue that could match both of our likes—mountain and ocean—and that was Four Seasons Lanai. FS Lanai was perfect for us because it had venues on both mountain side and ocean side plus a ranch with horses too!

Were there any specific elements that were important to include?
The sweetheart rock was a must! Or else it would have been just another ‘palm tree-ocean view’ wedding.

Where did you find inspiration for your wedding?
My fiancé wanted to have a destination wedding in Hawaii while I thought it would be a huge hassle to prepare everything in just two months. But I didn’t have a strong opinion and found myself googling “destination wedding” and exploring pinterest and instagram every minute.

Inspiration for your color palette?
I prefer toned down Californian florals and greens more than the vibrant Hawaiian palette. I’ve always liked the the silvery greens and peachy pastel colors which I used for the ceremony. On the other hand, my husband wanted deep red, a darker but elegant hue for reception. Moana Belle Events and our florist, Mandy Grace Designs really pulled off the image I had in mind!
