Modern Orangery Wedding Blending Scottish & Chinese Heritage
This modern wedding is the perfect template on how to beautifully blend two cultures in your wedding. Two becoming one has never looked so gorgeous! Honoring both their family’s heritage, Lisa and Ruaridh along with their planner, The Bijou Bride, blended Scottish and Chinese traditions with fine art and modern styles. The breathtaking orangery wedding venue in London sets the stage, flooded with natural lighting, vibrant pink florals and a touch of tropical all captured by Robbins Photographic.
From the planner and designer, The Bijou Bride: Boston based Lisa and Ruaridh wanted an unfussy, modern destination wedding …. in a greenhouse or orangery….. in the heart of London (the groom’s home town). A tall ask but when we found Syon Park and Lisa and Ruaridh also fell in love with it and just couldn’t picture the wedding being anywhere else.
It’s easy to do vintage styles in such a historical setting but we had fun with perspex and vellum materials, modern fonts and tropical blooms to bring something fresh and new to the space. Lisa really knew what she wanted and put her trust in us to deliver her minimalist dream despite only coming to the UK twice throughout the whole 18 month planning process. We also needed to honor both of their family’s heritage blending Scottish and Chinese traditions.
They didn’t want a ‘theme’ but we incorporated little fun nods to their backgrounds like macarons with stamped double happiness symbols in chocolate, custom fortune cookie favors, Scottish shortbread cookies, Green Tea from China Town and Coffee from Boston, Scottish thistles peppered around the floral arrangements, the family tartan kilts and no one could forget the Groom’s father piping the guests through to the wedding breakfast!
The bride knew just what she wanted and likes understated luxury, evidenced in her beautiful but simple wedding dress which she wanted to wear around the city centre for portraits before the wedding began. No fussy veil or accessories, just great shoes and Hollywood worthy hair.
The core bridal party weren’t ready to finish the night when the band played their last tune, the beauty of getting married in a city… lots of spots to dance through the early hours AND bag some free drinks as the bride. Which is just what they did when we packed them off in classic London taxis with wedding cake and bottles of English Prosecco at 1am!
The couple’s personalities shown bright in this modern London wedding and we’re l-o-v-i-n-g the bright and romantic orangery venue. #swoon. If you’re a lover of colorful florals than this destination wedding was meant for you.
