Make These DIY Handlettered Ribbon Wands for your Wedding

We’ve teamed up with Spoonflower to create a no-sew project using our favorite fabric patterns as well as the pattern we created just for this DIY! This is a twofer project that will please your venue (no sparklers! no messy tosses!) and your guests will love as they send you off to newlywed bliss.

We designed our fabric as a fat quarter project, which means you can get just enough for smaller projects such as ribbon for packaging. This no-sew fat quarter fabric ribbon pattern has so many uses, which always ranks high in our list of favorite DIYs and and by the end of this project you’ll have 8 finished wands!

You will need:

Our fat quarter of ribbon pattern fabric. We’re using Modern Jersey to prevent fraying
One yard each of Modern Jersey in these patterns

rotary cutter
ruler
self-healing cutting mat
wooden dowels
eye screws
jingle bells
fishing line

To make ribbon wands, start out by laying your fabric on a self-healing cutting mat — if using a fat quarter or a whole yard, you can fold your fabric in half, matching the pattern from both sides to speed the cutting process. With the help of a ruler (yardstick, or even a straight piece of cardboard!), line up your fabric with your mat and start cutting one-inch strips.

Next, using a hammer and small nail, pre-drill a hole on one end of the dowels with a gentle tap. Secure the eye screws in place with the help of pliers.

Thread the bell with fishing line on the eye screw, tie a knot and add your ribbons. We looped 2-3 ribbons through the eye screw and tied two more around the screw to give a finished look.. We used 4-5 ribbons on each wand and used Spoonflower’s Modern Jersey fabric to avoid having frayed edges and have a wrinkle-free look. If you prefer a fabric that doesn’t have a stretch, we recommend the Kona® Cotton Ultra.

You can also use leftover ribbons to make a fabric strip garland like we did here, package wedding favors and another favorite — use to tie your wedding bouquet!
