Romantic Party Wedding at Prospect House
It seems like lately we can’t resist a wedding at Prospect House, and for good reasons — just take a look at this one from Lisa Woods Photography, Wild Sky Events, and Petals Ink to know why. Flannery and Nick had a New Year’s Eve wedding at the Texas venue, providing their guests with love and laughter, good eats, and a party to celebrate the holiday in style.
From the bride, Flannery: We grew up in Austin together and it has always felt like home. We wanted to get married in a place that featured the hill country and Texas sky and allowed us to bring together our family and friends from all over. We have moved around a lot from Austin to Seattle and now Michigan, and it meant a lot to have everyone together and celebrate with us. We wrote our own vows that we read to each other during our first look. While our ceremony contained more traditional vows, we wrote the majority of the script ourselves so that we were able to add personal details about us. We hadn’t planned on a New Year’s Eve wedding. Pretty much immediately after we got engaged, we sat down and tried to figure out a date in December that worked with Nick’s law school schedule and New Year’s Eve was the only Saturday that worked. We were a little hesitant about it at first, but I am really glad that we did! There were fireworks in the background during our ceremony, and it added even more excitement to the atmosphere. It was so much fun to ring in the New Year with everyone we love in the same room and start the New Year together as husband and wife.
We call each other “bear” and as a nod to that, we got blue sparkle bear cake toppers. Nick wore his great grandfathers cufflinks and I wore a blue sapphire bracelet that my dad gave my mom when I was born. Honestly, we love to eat and a lot of it ended up being food and drink related. We also had Voodoo doughnuts as our midnight snack as a nod to our years in the Pacific Northwest, and mulled wine because it is one of our favorite drinks to make together and bring to family get-togethers. We also had PNW wines from a winery that we visited quite often while living in Seattle as well as some of our favorite Texas beers.
What was the most memorable part of the day? My favorite part was walking into the ceremony. I hadn’t seen it lit up and fully put together yet and it was breathtaking. I was really anxious and ready to just get married but walking outside to the candlelit ceremony space with my parents, surrounded by loved ones and seeing Nick waiting at white square framed by the hills made me calm down and just live in that moment. Also, there were several fireworks that went off in the background during our ceremony as well so it felt like everyone was celebrating with us. A close second was when the waiter was clearing plates and asked if my husband was done with his. That was the first time someone had referred to Nick as my husband through a casual conversation.
From the wedding designer and planner, Wild Sky Events: From our first design call I knew Flannery and Nick’s wedding was going to be a gorgeous wedding. Twilight blue, lots of candlelight, gold accents and romantic floral were the main focus of our design and color palette. With soft lighting, greenery and glowing lanterns our goal was to create a romantic ceremony under the stars. From the mulled wine and cider bar to the acrylic menus and gorgeous place cards this wedding was all about the details. For the reception it was all about the epic disco ball over the dance floor, smores bar, donuts, and a delicious family style menu. It was a romantic and magically evening to two wonderful people getting married amongst all their family and friends on a gorgeous New Years Eve in Hill Country. My favorite part of this wedding were the design details: Mulled wine and apple cider bar on a vintage cart, Copper etched menu for the mulled wine station and the bar, Gold vintage bar cart filled with all their NYE props, Vintage lounge with those gorgeous royal blue chairs, The 5′ high acrylic seating chart – we had to build a custom base for this one in our shop. We then added uplights underneath to help the white lettering stand out for the evening reception. This has to be one of my favorite reception designs of the year. I love the romantic floral with the pops of red’s, blush, neutrals and blue. I love the copper water glasses, the acrylic menu’s and the marble hand calligraphy place cards. The best part of the reception space has to be the gigantic 4′ diameter disco ball!
