Modern Highlands Wedding Editorial

This beautiful wedding editorial is just the thing we need for this September day, and how perfect is the styling for the upcoming change of the season? Kati Hewitt Photography and Love Birds Vintage Rentals & Styling collaborated on this Scotland-inspired shoot, bringing in all of the classic elements of the jaw-dropping elements of the Highlands terrain with a hint of modernity. Bride & Bloom drew in some of the most awe-inducing, berry-toned blooms and foliage for the arrangements; great complementary pieces for the earthy feel of this entire shoot.

From the photographer, Kati Hewitt Photography: There are few places in Europe as beautifully enchanting as the Highlands of Scotland, a fact not lost on the Mother-Daughter design team at the helm of Love Birds Vintage Rentals & Styling. “We lived in Scotland when Tiffani was a teenager,” explained Bridgette, “so we brought a lot of items home with us when we returned to the States. There is something about the history and character of those pieces that shaped not just this shoot, but our overall design aesthetic and how we approach wedding design in general. Scotland is all about history, and in a sense, weddings are as well. We want to help our clients create spaces that speak to their own story; their own history, and their families’ histories. That’s what weddings are, after all, taking his history and her history, combining them and then building upon that to create your own.”

We took the idea of quintessential Scotland, with its intense green hills, beautiful ivy-lined rose gardens and stark gray architecture and then tempered it with a modern touch. There’s a lot of that going on in the region as well, always a push and pull between the traditional and the modern, and that idea extends to American wedding design as well. We really wanted to keep that traditional element, that sort of wink to the past, without creating a design that felt stuffy. Of course there are elements like the tartan throws that are decidedly traditional, but when you look at Kelli, her look is much more edgy. We wanted to show brides that it is possible to combine both in a way that works.

Working with Kati Hewitt of Kati Hewitt Photography, they were able to capture the essence of Scotland without the 8 hour plane ride. “Olde Dobbin Station was the perfect backdrop, and Kati captured it perfectly. It’s one of the oldest structures in the area dating back to the late 1890s. We knew we wanted to capitalize on that for this shoot. When we started adding in all the details, it just took us right back home.”
