Dinosaur Inspired Wedding at Fernbank Museum

What better venue for two self-proclaimed “big nerds” than a museum of natural history? Jade + Matthew Take Pictures captured the wedding day of Jackie and Jon, who filled their day with bright and colorful decor (need we point out the amazing floral design by Artistic Flowers?) to complement the museum’s own architecture. Don’t miss a single second of this one!

From the bride, Jackie: Jon and I both have a lot of family, so we knew from the start we would be having a large wedding. With that in mind, we wanted a setting that would be large enough to suit all our guests and still have a lot of personality. We looked at a number of hotel ballrooms that all looked supremely bland, so the architecture of the museum was refreshing… Oh, and we are both big nerds (Jon just got his PhD in Computer Science and I am a major pop culture and science fiction fan) and we love dinosaurs, so that helped. =)

You will notice from the photos that we wanted a lot of bright, beautiful summer flowers — especially because I had originally hoped for an outdoor wedding, which ended up being impractical in Atlanta in July. The colors were actually picked to match the watercolor image on our invitations. Jon and I were living in New York while the wedding was being planned so Wayne, our wedding planner, designer and florist, chose all the color combinations and planned all the table layouts, including the glassware, tablecloths, chairs and a variety of other things I never would have thought of on my own.

Wedding Music:
Wedding Party Processional: Handel’s Royal Fireworks; Vivaldi’s Allegro in D from Concerto for Two Trumpets; Handel’s Hornpipe from Water Music
Bride’s Processional: “Te Diem,” Charpentier
We had no real recessional music because we recessed to the sound of everyone ringing dozens of unique antique bells my mom had painstakingly sought out one by one over the past year from antique markets and junk fairs and put under every seat as a surprise. Very fun play on Jon’s last name. 🙂
First Dance: “Sea of Love,” Cat Power
