Golden Plum Garden Wedding

A garden wedding is a treat any time of the year, though it certainly shines best when surrounded by blooming flowers and great agricultural details, like in this shoot from Simply Rose Photography, Weddings by Journey, and Greenstems. Deep purple and gold come together to make a rich color palette, which serves as a perfect contrast to the bride’s wispy and romantic wedding gown!

From the photographer, Rose of Simply Rose Photography: The main inspiration for this shoot was a deep purple colour combined with some rustic food elements like artichokes, berries and grapes. The concept was developed by myself to include some rich tones that would be offset by an outdoor garden location that could be fitting any time of the year. Gold was added as a small accent in some of the decor and the cake. The scene starts off with the elegant tablescape of gold charger plates with gold-trimmed china along with a matching set of cutlery. A menu card with a small greenery sprig completes the place setting simply yet elegantly. Each setting has two glasses; one purple tall-stemmed goblet and a smaller vintage drinking glass. The floral runner was designed with the purple theme in mind as well as pulling together some the savory components in the charcuterie platters for an organic and rustic but elevated centerpiece. Interspersed throughout the runner are tall mercury candlesticks and smaller gold goblets of flower arrangements. Everything was set on a heavy charred oak table with matching benches and purple seating pillows for each setting.

The table was shot in two segments; one with the simple place setting and one with personal charcuterie platters and a signature drink, both designed by Railtown Catering. They worked with the colour palette to create a savory component to the shoot that meshed well with the organic feel of the florals and surroundings. The artisan antipasto platters featured Italian and Spanish meats such as salamis, prosciutto and mortadella, imported cheeses, marinated, grilled and chilled Mediterranean vegetables with raw vegetables and a house made sourdough. The signature drink (The Winter Wedding specialty cocktail) comprised of local wallflower gin, creme de cassis, fresh pressed beet and apple juice, rose water, nectar and topped with a sparking rose wine.

The goal for the bridal styling was simple while incorporating some of the purple palette without being too overpowering. The bride’s (model’s name was Anjani Varma) Ellebay gown (Gabrielle) was just the right amount of appeal suitable for a garden wedding so we kept her hair loose and the jewelry minimal to earrings, a bracelet and a ring from Gorjana. A skinny belt was added to accessorize the dress. The groom (model’s name was Owen Unruh, represented by Charles Stuart International) showcased a suit from Topman that featured a bit of purple in the suit jacket and it was paired with a purple tie for a little pop of colour. The bouquet was loose, organic and asymmetrical with quicksand roses, purple anenomes, artichokes, tulips, proteas and a host of greenery from maidenferns to olive foliage.

The final component of the shoot was the cake and savory display located in a stone hearth featuring a beautiful assortment of purple and green edibles along with a larger version of the charcuterie platter as well as the signature cocktail. Here, the golden plum concept comes together in the cake and decor items along with the garden element of the stone backdrop. The colours are rich and inviting. Some floral branches lean towards the cake, mimicking the shape of the arch. For the final few shots, the top tier of the cake was cut to reveal a bit of complimentary colour inside.
