Winter Wedding Ideas with an Amaranthus Chandelier

Few things make us think of romance as much as the idea of eloping, so we’re especially thrilled to share today’s styled shoot from Sweetlife Photography and Heirbloom Floral. Some of Portland’s best wedding vendors teamed up to create a styled scene full of hot fuchsia, cool teal, pops of gold, and an amaranthus chandelier we’d love to try for ourselves!

From the event designer, Heirbloom Floral: Creative collaboration can truly make something beautiful, magical, and most importantly, inspiring. I had the pleasure of teaming up with Sweetlife Photography and several other Portland wedding vendors to represent some of the finest local talents. Together, we created our Boho-Bliss Winterland Elopement photo shoot and it was nothing short of perfection. A blanket of snow, vibrant florals, and gold-dipped feathers inspired this enchanting jewel-toned elopement inspiration. Our bride and groom represent beauty, love, spontaneity, and utter bliss, and Oregon’s Mount Hood was the most ideal location to conceive this wonderfully eclectic elopement. The snow covered evergreens, crisp air, and the nearby running river were invigorating and tied the story of our shoot together effortlessly.

Our beautiful bride has a very soft and feminine style. Face Body Beauty went with a neutral color palette for her face and eye makeup, and a lovely pop of rich color on her lips. Her loose, free-flowing curls captured the aesthetics of our bohemian bride and brought a confidence to her that shines in every photo. Her gorgeous gown was provided by The English Department, and was without a doubt the most perfect dress. The ‘Samantha’ dress, designed by Leanne Marshall (Season 5 Project Runway winner), has a beautiful ivory Alençon lace sculpted bustier bodice with a full-gathered silk chiffon skirt. Finding a dress that would organically “flow” was something Sweetlife Photography envisioned and this dress did not disappoint! The bridal accessories were also provided by The English Department to complete our bride’s look. Designer Mignonne Handmade created her unique floral headpiece, affectionately named the ‘Portland Rose’, and features brass flowers and leaves, glass rhinestones, and pearls. The English Department designed her sash—a double strand of gold cased rhinestones on an ivory silk grosgrain ribbon. Finally, to bring in some boldness and represent a little excitement and winter-spontaneity, we incorporated a peacock blue stole from Anthropologie to keep her warm on her special day.

Our handsome groom is styled with a paisley printed collared shirt, navy blue bow tie, and a maroon quilted blazer—all provided by Scotch & Soda. His quilted blazer works nicely in our winter setting, and gives him a cozy yet dapper look. My vision for our sweetheart table included a floral chandelier to display above, so we found a quiet spot that perfectly nestled-in our table, cake display, and beverage bar. Vintage Mingle provided the most complimentary props and décor for our shoot (my personal favorite being the vintage sled). Each piece used was meant to reflect the couple’s stylish personality. Vintage books, antique brass vases, fruits, nuts, and lavender vessels all played a part in our tablescape to create texture and add variance in color. The palette of vibrant magentas and purples, peacock blues and accents of sparkly gold, was just the right contrast to the glowing white snow in the background.

Our delectable cake with a gold stripe finish was provided by Palace Cakes, which was placed on top of a plum colored cake stand and finished off with magenta roses for the cake topper. Tribes ‘n Pines beautifully hand-lettered our invitation and menu card. Incorporating feathers and gold ink were subtle details that helped tell the story and style of our couple. Being able to design and provide the flowers was my favorite part of the shoot. My small business, Heirbloom Floral, aims to create unique, romantic and whimsical arrangements. In this shoot, I used bright magenta roses, violet lisianthus, silver brunia, fuchsia amaranthus, and loads of seeded eucalyptus. Our floral chandelier, cake topper roses, and small garland for our sled are fun ways I ignited creative interest for our shoot. Nothing excited me more than finding unique ways to incorporate our florals and enhance the beauty of the day!

While elopements are usually a spontaneous decision and quickly planned, our hope is to inspire couples to still make it their dream day. We wanted to capture the realism of an elopement, but bring in elements of playfulness, free spirits, and creativity. The day was full of excitement, unexpected details and lots of love! Sweetlife Photography truly captured the essence of our shoot and you can see how exceptional their work is in every photo produced. At the end of their special day, our couple bundled up with blankets, piled some firewood on their sled, and made a small fire while drinking cinnamon-cranberry mulled wine. I could not have created or styled this whole shoot without the help of our talented vendors. I hope this leaves others with a sense of excitement, inspiration, and of course, love.
