Irish Countryside Wedding with Doilies

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Grace Photography

Kyle and Susan wanted a wedding that was timeless and classic, but also personalized to their own individual style — which is exactly what they were able to achieve! Grace Photography captured the day and the beautiful floral design of Hilltop Flowers, who chose soft and romantic blooms that will be as beautiful tomorrow as they will be 50 years from now.

From the bride, Susan: We planned our wedding in exactly six months and the style we envisioned was traditional with a vintage twist! We wanted it to be timeless and classic but also putting our own individual stamp on it. For example, Kyle had always liked the idea of tails but we teamed it with a tweed waistcoat and tie and brown brogues to make it more his own and something a little bit different.

Flowers used for the rest of the day were lilac statice, pale pink hydrangea, pink and cream eustoma, cream antirrhinum, cinerea, pink and cream bouverdia, pink gyp, pink and cream astilbe, pink, cream and pale blue delphiniums, pink peonies (Sarah Bernhardt), variegated pittosporum and poppy heads. The buckets and crates outside contained large pink hydrangeas.

We always wanted the feel of our wedding day to be relaxed and personal and the importance of the day to be placed on the wedding ceremony more than anything else. That was the most important part of the day for us. My father had been the minister at the Cathedral for the last nine years and it is actually were Kyle and I met and were he proposed. It was a very special day for us. We had a lot of family and friends involved in the day. From my father actually walking me down the aisle and marrying us to my brother singing our first dance. We also used a lot of family photos throughout the day from photo hoops on the pew ends to sweetie jars named after our nieces and nephews and photos of our families around Ballymagravey Village. Ballymagarvey Village’s tag line is make ‘our house your home’ and that is why we chose it. As soon as saw it we knew it was the were our wedding would be – a home from home.

As some of our guests were traveling a distance to the ceremony venue we had elevenses before the service in the church hall. Myself and my bridesmaids as well as Father of the bride set this up the night before. I had made paper doily bunting with twine and paper straw flags for the lemonade in the glass milk bottles. I had also made vintage table runners made out of different Jane Austen books – we also used these for the table in Ballymagarvey Village. I had made photo embroidery hoops and lace embroidery hoops for the church pew ends as we were both the last of a generation in our families to get married we had photos from grandparent, parents and siblings weddings on each pew end. Kyle and I had painted and distressed a vintage wooden ladder and attached our seating plan to the ladder. For place settings we had doilies with each persons named stamped onto them. We also had our own personalised Sharpie markers (Kyle’s pen of choice!) wrapped in either blue or pink gingham tissue along with a little label attached with twine. We also used the book page table runners for each table.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? A few of our friends have recently got engaged and Kyle has been giving out advice as an expert in the field now!!! He told them to give away as many jobs on the day as possible and to enjoy it. We were told so many times by so many different people to make sure and to take the time to enjoy the day. Both of us didn’t really understand what that meant until the day arrived itself. It really is the best advice.

Winter Wedding Ideas with an Amaranthus Chandelier

Wedding Design

Few things make us think of romance as much as the idea of eloping, so we’re especially thrilled to share today’s styled shoot from Sweetlife Photography and Heirbloom Floral. Some of Portland’s best wedding vendors teamed up to create a styled scene full of hot fuchsia, cool teal, pops of gold, and an amaranthus chandelier we’d love to try for ourselves!

From the event designer, Heirbloom Floral: Creative collaboration can truly make something beautiful, magical, and most importantly, inspiring. I had the pleasure of teaming up with Sweetlife Photography and several other Portland wedding vendors to represent some of the finest local talents. Together, we created our Boho-Bliss Winterland Elopement photo shoot and it was nothing short of perfection. A blanket of snow, vibrant florals, and gold-dipped feathers inspired this enchanting jewel-toned elopement inspiration. Our bride and groom represent beauty, love, spontaneity, and utter bliss, and Oregon’s Mount Hood was the most ideal location to conceive this wonderfully eclectic elopement. The snow covered evergreens, crisp air, and the nearby running river were invigorating and tied the story of our shoot together effortlessly.

Our beautiful bride has a very soft and feminine style. Face Body Beauty went with a neutral color palette for her face and eye makeup, and a lovely pop of rich color on her lips. Her loose, free-flowing curls captured the aesthetics of our bohemian bride and brought a confidence to her that shines in every photo. Her gorgeous gown was provided by The English Department, and was without a doubt the most perfect dress. The ‘Samantha’ dress, designed by Leanne Marshall (Season 5 Project Runway winner), has a beautiful ivory Alençon lace sculpted bustier bodice with a full-gathered silk chiffon skirt. Finding a dress that would organically “flow” was something Sweetlife Photography envisioned and this dress did not disappoint! The bridal accessories were also provided by The English Department to complete our bride’s look. Designer Mignonne Handmade created her unique floral headpiece, affectionately named the ‘Portland Rose’, and features brass flowers and leaves, glass rhinestones, and pearls. The English Department designed her sash—a double strand of gold cased rhinestones on an ivory silk grosgrain ribbon. Finally, to bring in some boldness and represent a little excitement and winter-spontaneity, we incorporated a peacock blue stole from Anthropologie to keep her warm on her special day.

Our handsome groom is styled with a paisley printed collared shirt, navy blue bow tie, and a maroon quilted blazer—all provided by Scotch & Soda. His quilted blazer works nicely in our winter setting, and gives him a cozy yet dapper look. My vision for our sweetheart table included a floral chandelier to display above, so we found a quiet spot that perfectly nestled-in our table, cake display, and beverage bar. Vintage Mingle provided the most complimentary props and décor for our shoot (my personal favorite being the vintage sled). Each piece used was meant to reflect the couple’s stylish personality. Vintage books, antique brass vases, fruits, nuts, and lavender vessels all played a part in our tablescape to create texture and add variance in color. The palette of vibrant magentas and purples, peacock blues and accents of sparkly gold, was just the right contrast to the glowing white snow in the background.

Our delectable cake with a gold stripe finish was provided by Palace Cakes, which was placed on top of a plum colored cake stand and finished off with magenta roses for the cake topper. Tribes ‘n Pines beautifully hand-lettered our invitation and menu card. Incorporating feathers and gold ink were subtle details that helped tell the story and style of our couple. Being able to design and provide the flowers was my favorite part of the shoot. My small business, Heirbloom Floral, aims to create unique, romantic and whimsical arrangements. In this shoot, I used bright magenta roses, violet lisianthus, silver brunia, fuchsia amaranthus, and loads of seeded eucalyptus. Our floral chandelier, cake topper roses, and small garland for our sled are fun ways I ignited creative interest for our shoot. Nothing excited me more than finding unique ways to incorporate our florals and enhance the beauty of the day!

While elopements are usually a spontaneous decision and quickly planned, our hope is to inspire couples to still make it their dream day. We wanted to capture the realism of an elopement, but bring in elements of playfulness, free spirits, and creativity. The day was full of excitement, unexpected details and lots of love! Sweetlife Photography truly captured the essence of our shoot and you can see how exceptional their work is in every photo produced. At the end of their special day, our couple bundled up with blankets, piled some firewood on their sled, and made a small fire while drinking cinnamon-cranberry mulled wine. I could not have created or styled this whole shoot without the help of our talented vendors. I hope this leaves others with a sense of excitement, inspiration, and of course, love.

Colorado Wedding Under the Supermoon

Romantic Weddings

What could be dreamier than marrying your love on the night of a supermoon? Bridgette and Hoyt did just that, bringing along the talented Sarah Rose Burns Photography, Feather & Twig, and Beet and Yarrow to make the day one to remember for ages to come. How wonderful is their paper doily ceremony backdrop?

Colorado Wedding Under the SuperMoon - photo by Sarah Rose Burns Photography https://ruffledblog.com/colorado-wedding-under-the-super-moon

From the bride, Bridgette: We envisioned a very romantic and rustic feel. We wanted it to be elegant and comfortable — charming, classic, collected. Our color scheme was sun bleached peach, pistachio, and champagne. DIY projects included hand-made doily and butcher twine garland, eclectic napkins, and the rustic lawn games.

From the photographer, Sarah Rose Burns Photography: This real wedding took place on the beautiful grounds of Lyons Farmette in Colorado this summer. The combination of vintage details designed by Feather & Twig, with the lush gardens and lively farmette, made for an incredibly enjoyable affair. Bridgette & Hoyt knew from the beginning that they wanted an intimate outdoor gathering, with stylish details and incredible food. Their team of vendors fulfilled all the requirements and the guests partied late into the night. Fun fact: it was the night of a “super-moon” so we also got some portraits in the moonlight.

Century House Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Danielle Poff

Summer is finally starting to wind down a bit, which makes us appreciate relaxed, backyard celebrations like this one from Danielle Poff all the more. After some searching, Alexa and Eric were able to find the perfect venues for the backyard wedding feel they sought, topping the day off with impeccable floral arrangements from The Petal Co..

Century House wedding - photo by Danielle Poff https://ruffledblog.com/century-house-wedding

From the bride, Alexa: We envisioned a backyard wedding feel for our big day but did not have an actual yard to use, so our venue locations were the closest to “backyard” that we could get! We also wanted it to be really relaxed and laid back, more of a party atmosphere. To keep with the summer wedding and light fresh feel we had an adorable lemonade stand as well!

Flower recipe: For the bouquets the flowers used were gardenia branches, feverfew, garden roses, silver brunia and dusty miller. For the hanging macrame pots there were blackberry branches, seeded eucalyptus, garden roses, lemon leaf and mint. Centerpieces at the reception had feverfew, garden roses, mint, seeded eucalyptus, and dusty miller.

We had a color scheme that was mainly used for the bridal party attire and in some of the linens and floral arrangements. Yellow and gray have always been two of my favorite colors so I wanted those to be present in our big day! I wanted my girls to be comfortable so I let them chose any gray dress that they felt the best in! For the guys we kept it casual as well with yellow gingham shirts with cuffed sleeves and loose ties. Summers in Pleasanton are hot so I wanted everyone to feel comfortable! As far as DIY projects go there was quite a few! All of the invitation pats were hand stamped by my husband and me. One of my friends designed the stamps for us and we hand stamped them all! She also designed the program which we turned into a stamp and added a Popsicle stick, and an engagement photo to make a cute fan for guests while they were at the ceremony. The chalkboards at the reception were all done by me and our lotto scratcher favors were in tiny envelopes designed by my friend also.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? It sounds cliche but go with your gut! If it’s something you and your fiance want then go for it! at the end of the day, you don’t want to have regrets about things you should have done! I got some flack for my very casual feel of the whole thing including my dress, open seating plan, and laid back approach. Once the wedding day was here though no ones opinions matter! all of our guest had a fabulous time and I couldn’t be more happy about our day! Some advice for the day of, again cliche, but don’t sweat the small stuff! Yes, little things will come up (for example we had flowers that were supposed to go around our cake tiers and the bakery just put them next to the cake) which could have been a problem I stressed about, but know one knew how it was supposed to be anyways and it still looked super cute! Another advice is DO A CAKE SMASH!! I have to say these are some of my favorite pics of our day. Since we did a First Look (also recommended) before the ceremony we already had so many nice and pretty pics so it was really fun to have the crazy pictures with cake on our face!
