Indie Australian Wedding
A bride in a vintage dress, a groom in suspenders and a cap and handmade details to boot? This is love! This adorable Aussie bride and her fiance pulled together a lovely celebration in the woods by enlisting the help of creative friends and family. I’m crazy about the portraits Ryan Polei captured, so check out the gallery for the full set!
From the bride, Lisa. We wanted our wedding to be outside, perhaps on a farm or in a beautiful garden. We thought what better way to decorate than to use the environment around you? Dan and his family used to camp at Mt Crawford Forest, just outside of Adelaide, Australia. We visited one particular camp ground called The Old Schoolhouse and just knew it was perfect with its beautiful scenery.
We wanted our wedding to be full of DIY and feel vintage, electric, and “collected” with natural elements thrown in to fit in with the surroundings. We set up everything the day before the wedding with the help of family and friends.
I designed all the stationery, and collected tea cups, plates and vases from second hand stores. All the chairs and tables were collected from charity sales and borrowed from friends and family. We made the tablecloths from second-hand bed sheets and lace curtains. My mum made the floral garland and I made my hairpiece.

This wedding is from Adelaide, so beautiful! I’ve ended up booking the assistant photographer Ben McGee!
Gorgeous Images! such a rad day!
I realize I am the third person to ask this, but SHOES… really, where are they from?! They are gorgeous …. (as is the wedding)
What is it about all the weddings over there? Those Australians…they just get it. So lovely!
A friend of mind happened to come across this blog and spoted my love banner here,so neat!
I think the men looks amazing! The image of them all leaning on one another is fantastic!
Radelaide….they always have the best style.
So you’re all wondering about the shoes… well they were actually a DIY job! I bought the shoes from Wittner, just a plain nude coloured pair. Then I found some sequin applique headbands at Diva (a cheap jewellery & accessory store). I bought two, unpicked them from the headband and glued them onto the shoes with Tarzan Grip. Easy!
Thankyou for all the kind comments. Ryan Polei and Ben McGee did an amazing job capturing what was probably the most fun day I have ever had. I would recommend them for any one looking for fun, easygoing but incredible talented photographers.
Is there a guide on how to make the pom-pom hanging thing?
I love the pom-pom garland thing, too!
I loved the style of the grooms. Manly but still elegant without the need of a suit.
Everything about this wedding is perfect. I love the men’s outfits, the decorations-everything.
Beautiful wedding! I would love to know where your shoes are from!? They are exactly what I am looking for!
