Elegant Navy Blue Ashford Estate Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Hold on to your seats, everyone, because this classy Halloween wedding captured by danfredo photos + films is a total stunner. Becca and Bryan put their thinking caps on and enlisted the help of Styled for Love to create a wedding day that was their own while adding stylish touches of the fun holiday and the season. Once that was established, Kate Farley Design nailed the florals to say the least, with beautiful colors like soft pink and burgundy streaming through. This day was fantastic, and doesn’t literally smashing pumpkins sound like fun?

From the bride, Becca: The Ashford Estate was an unbelievable and breathtaking venue, so we knew we didn’t want to alter the vibe too much. At the same time, we wanted to keep it ostensibly “Becca & Bryan” with our own touches. We made sure that the details we did pick would be visible and impactful: placing candles all around the barn during the ceremony, and adding touches to the “pre-ceremony” by stringing lights and serving hot apple cider and having our own custom beer were some of our favorites.

Fall Wedding Inspiration with Jewel Tones

Wedding Design

Just in time for delightful fall weather, Ashlee Mintz Photography graces us with this equally-delightful bridal inspiration. Designed by Arielle Fera Events, the shoot is set in a lovely moody color palette with the prettiest shades of seasonal colors outside of the norm of oranges and browns, like cool plums, charcoal grey, and navy blue. Lightening up the wedding editorial are the exceptional dresses in neutral shades to die for. Let’s not forget about the insanely-good arrangements by Allium Floral Design; from the wedding centerpieces to the bouquets, the floral designs were one of the many cherries on top of this wedding shoot!

From the photographer, Ashlee Mintz Photography: Collaborating with Arielle Fera Events to bring this dark moody vision to life led to the most beautiful, gothic, and romantic wedding inspiration. This shoot has a lot of different elements/details, from the lush floral tablescape to the cabbage that lies under a marble name card. The palette included rich, deep tones of purples, blacks, charcoals, and blues. These jewel tones evoked the most magical setting for a stunning bride and her bridesmaids.

Black Tie Halloween Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Halloween is creeping up on us, and we can’t think of a better way to kick off the spirit than this elegant take on a Halloween wedding from Smith House Photography, Paige Kristian Planning, and Arteflora Design. The team used an updated palette of navy blue and burgundy with just a touch of gold, and a selection of fresh fruits made the perfect accent. The cake especially caught our eye — we love the idea of using gold foil!

black tie Halloween wedding inspiration - photo by Smith House Photography http://ruffledblog.com/black-tie-halloween-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer and stylist, Becki of Smith House Photography: When we began dreaming of a Halloween inspired wedding shoot, we knew we wanted to step away from the typical “orange and black”. So we replaced orange with golds (take a close look at the flatware from Anthropologie, it is to die for!) and black with navy (of course we kept SOME black, it just seemed to fit!) to create something unique and beautiful for the holiday. With burgundy as our main color accent and a venue with gorgeous greenery, we aimed to use organics and florals to bring in deep, dark colors to our Halloween inspiration; blackberries, figs, deep peonies. We wanted classic.

We wanted details that would be appealing even to a bride who may never consider a Halloween affair. But since it is Halloween, we added in amazing Halloween details; Cue the most unique BLACK wedding cake you’ve ever seen and romantic Corpse Bride quotes incorporated into the invitations and ceremony backdrop. So without a pumpkin in sight, we present to you the gorgeous Black (Berry) Tie Halloween Inspiration Shoot at The Gallery in Houston, Texas.

Enchanted Forest Halloween Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

Birke Photography

When your wedding date just so happens to be Halloween, you have two options — one, ignore the holiday altogether, or two, embrace it and pull out all the stops. Chelsey and Nathaniel chose option two, fusing Halloween spookiness with an enchanted forest theme for a result that’s both elegant and inspiring. Birke Photography and Valley Flower Company did excellent work here, especially the bride’s lavender rose bouquet!

enchanted forest Halloween wedding - photo by Birke Photography http://ruffledblog.com/enchanted-forest-halloween-wedding

From the bride, Chelsey: Nathaniel and I met in the 7th grade and have been good friends since spending a whole night talking in the 9th grade. At 24 years old and both in a time of change we decided to move to Mexico together and the adventure continues! The ceremony was held in the Milking Parlor of the Round Barn – a romantic and simple classic vibe, using lavender flowers to incorporate California (where we live), ocean song grey roses with grasses and some darker leaves to accent. The flowers were tied with black velvet.

For the evening reception in the hayloft of the round barn, to feel like you are outside in an enchanted forest we used tree branches, grasses, berries, some dark red roses and pumpkins. I wore my grandmothers pearl necklace as a hairpiece and 4 pins by our 4 grandmothers on my bouquet. The veil was my sister’s that she wore 3 years ago, and I also wore a gold bracelet that I made.

Halloween Oddities Inspiration Shoot

Wedding Design

What’s Halloween without a little bit of spookiness? This styled shoot from Rach Lea Photography and Ivory and Beau takes the Spanish moss that’s native to Savannah, GA and uses it to add an eerie, almost swamp-like effect that’s perfect for All Hallows’ Eve. We love that the “groom” brought his own pets to the shoot for an unexpected treat!

Halloween oddities inspiration shoot - photo by Rach Lea Photography http://rufflebdlog.com/halloween-oddities-inspiration-shoot

From the stylists, Nicole and Adrienna of Ivory and Beau: My best friend, Rachel, who is now getting married was dying to model for us and her tattoos inspired us to come up with an edgy, funky and darker wedding inspiration. With that are our starting point we came up with the theme of oddities and skulls. The Paris Market and Graveface Records had some amazing skulls and taxidermy pieces that we used for decor elements. For the flowers we wanted really dark elements and used a staple of Savannah and Savannah weddings, spanish moss, in a much darker way than normally seen.

The shoot took place at an old dairy farm, which has an almost haunted feel to it. Savannah is known for being a haunted city so it fit really well but in a completely different way than vendors normally portray Savannah. For an added treat, our guy model brought his 2 pets: a boa constrictor and a pitbull, which were perfect touches for the theme, except for when the boa constrictor decided to slither on the table… :) For the bride we modeled her in an assymetrical funky short dress from Faith Thornburg with a tulle and fishnet Twigs & Honey veil and we have Milan Day Spa do a faux hawk with intertwining braids.

‘Til Death Do Us Part Styled Wedding

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Analisa Joy

Halloween certainly comes with its own traditional colors – orange and black, with perhaps some purple thrown in – but we love this styled shoot focusing on the simplest palette of black and white. Analisa Joy, Couture Events, and Trendee Flowers worked their special Halloween magic on this wedding inspiration session, including a dramatic black lace gown.

Til Death Do Us Part Styled Wedding - photo by Analisa Joy http://ruffledblog.com/til-death-do-us-part-styled-wedding

From the event designer, Karina of Couture Events: I was inspired by those famous vows our couples share every year. “Till Death Do Us Part” encompasses eternal romance and an evermore covenant. I wanted to combine the charm of a wedding with the mystery of Halloween. The woodsy wonderland of La Bella Vida Estate was the perfect backdrop for this. The touches of mini white pumpkin place cards, eerie fog, and dry ice martinis brought in that spark of Halloween. The ombre color palette of black to white, the beautifully textured blooms and ambient candle lighting kept its elegance. I fell in love with the eccentricity of the hand painted and crafted signs, place cards, menus, and invitation.

Til Death Do Us Part Styled Wedding - photo by Analisa Joy http://ruffledblog.com/til-death-do-us-part-styled-wedding

We wanted the bride to have two different looks. The first being more bridal, dressed in a sun peeking through white ball gown dressed with soft curls and a more playful, natural look. The other to be the complete opposite, more stylized in her black gown with a darker more mysterious appearance. The groom was the perfect balance to both of these.

Wizard of Oz Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Sarah Kathleen

Hold onto your seats, folks, because today’s photoshoot (sent over by the queen of themed shoots, Sarah Kathleen) is positively overflowing with goodness. Equal parts Wizard of Oz and Halloween spookiness, this shoot styled by {Ever After} Artistry embraces all that late autumn has to offer with touches of emerald green, glitter, and bright red heels.

striped bridesmaids dresses // photo by Sarah Kathleen via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Sarah Kathleen: When you hear “Wizard of Oz”, what do you immediately think of? Munchkins, yellow brick roads, rainbows, ruby slippers, and a cute little dog…. right? Well, I wanted to go the complete opposite direction and draw inspiration from the dark side of Oz — flying monkeys, wicked witches, tornadoes, storm cellars, and poisonous flowers. So I teamed up with some of the area’s most brilliant creatives to bring this twisted Oz to life. We decided on a color palette of emerald, black, and white — with very few colorful nods to the brighter side of Oz (mostly through the floral design and the rainbow streamer ceremony backdrop). Seeing my dark and twisty vision come to life in a way that was still applicable to parties and weddings was surreal. We had so much fun playing dress up and throwing rainbow sprinkles, I want to do it all over again :)

E.E Cummings Inspired Halloween Shoot

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Babb Photo

As a literature major, one of my all-time favorite poets is ee cummings, so you can imagine my delight in seeing the use of his poem “i carry your heart with me” in many a wedding these days. Babb Photo took this very poem as inspiration for this styled shoot, completed with the help of the talented Always Andri and Boutique Blooms.

heart themed weddings // via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Laura of Babb Photo: This shoot was inspired by a series of still life pictures of real hearts tied with ribbon. The use of anatomically correct hearts, along with the ee cummings quote “I carry your heart with me, I carry it in my heart” was the starting point for the shoot’s styling. Weddings are all about two hearts finding each other but this is often depicted by the symbolic red heart, rather than showing the realism of an actual heart.

To counteract the slightly macabre feel of using anatomically correct organs, we wanted the rest of the styling to be beautiful and luxurious. Rich fabrics, pewter, and touches of luxury were used to counterbalance the Gothic feel and Asylum London, a former chapel Peckham made the perfect backdrop with opulent stained glass windows set against crumbling plaster. Our main aim was to show that edgy and luxurious can go hand in hand with beautiful results. You can achieve a high end, elegant alternative feel.

Dracula Inspired Halloween Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

Photo Pink

‘Till death do us apart is for quitters’ sums up this wedding perfectly. Frank and Marie wanted their Halloween wedding to exhibit romanticism, drama, and elegance, with gobs of entertainment for their guests. Photo Pink was the perfect fit to capture all of the details, of which there are so many — so let’s get started!

halloween wedding invitations // via ruffledblog.com

From the bride, Marie: Being a bit dark, dramatic and unique, we wanted to have a Halloween wedding that truly reflected our personalities. But we also were cognizant of the fact that it is very easy for a Halloween wedding to become cheesy, so we had to keep things tasteful. Inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, we looked to recreate the rich opulence and Gothic romanticism of the Victorian period. Our focus was on romanticism, drama and elegance, with a little tongue-in-cheek thrown in. We had over 6,000 roses and 300 plus candles to help make this happen. We wanted to also make sure our guests had fun, so we included many old and new things you would typically associate with Halloween such as: old-fashioned candies in our candy bar, fun seasonal drinks, fortune tellers, cirque performers, Rocky Horror performers, dancing zombies, soup served in hollowed out pumpkins and fun finger foods, to name a few.

Our colors were red, gold and black. Again, the goal was to reproduce the Gothic romanticism of the Victorian period, while giving the rich and opulent feel of Dracula’s castle (lots of velvets, deep reds, candles and candelabras, gold and black flatware and stemware. A TON of DIY was involved. I cannot emphasize how much work Marie put in to sourcing and planning this wedding. EVERYTHING from designing the flower arrays, lighting, tablecloths, unique stemware and flatware, furniture rentals (including wrought iron gates for the ceremony), specialty bar rentals, specialty drinks, the music, the entertainers, finding nostalgic candies and the apothecary jars for the candy bar, etc. I had to hire a moving company to transport over 70 boxes of stuff for the wedding to and from the venue.

Frank made custom coffin-shaped card boards with table seating assignments, and also made gravestone-shaped specialty drink menus, located at each bar. Frank and I made small coffin-shaped candy boxes, containing specialty Hershey’s kisses, wrapped in red ribbon with a gold wax seal on top (all done by our hands). I designed a 16 foot candy bar for guests available after cake cutting (featuring unique apothecary jar and antique glass containers filled with nostalgic candies). Vials filled with candy corn, and candy apples served as some of the takeaways. We made about 6 portraits of ourselves that were displayed during cocktail hour, using images from our engagement shoot. We picked out 3 specialty drinks for the wedding, including an absinthe drink. We also spent an month rehearsing our first dance.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? When planning, be yourself. Don’t be afraid to express yourself and go with what feels right for you. Remember it’s your day, not anyone else’s, so if you feel you are unreasonably compromising for others’ sake, don’t do it. (this is especially important when you are dealing with family). Also, don’t go in with the attitude that you need to top this person’s or that person’s wedding, you should be planning this for you. Don’t put unrealistic expectations on your family or your wedding party, otherwise you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Expect some things to not go as planned on your day (this is the reality, you can’t fight it). Don’t let these things ruin your day and just go with the flow. Your wedding day goes by very quickly, so remember to breathe, relax and have fun on your day!

Wedding Music:
Processional: “Ice Dance/The Grand Finale,” Danny Elfman (from the movie Edward Scissorhands) (great intro to walk to with a very dramatic-sounding moment in the song a little over a minute in to sync with the doors opening to reveal the bride)
Recessional: “Plainsong,” The Cure (queued up to start from the crescendo in the song)
First Dance: “As the World Falls Down,” David Bowie (from the movie Labyrinth)
We guarantee none of these songs have ever been played at any other wedding, but are incredibly beautiful and extremely fitting for the moments they were played. We also played a few Rocky Horror songs like the Time Warp (that was our electric slide), Sweet Transvestite (performed by a drag queen dressed as Dr. Frankenfurter), Michael Jackson’s thriller (performed by dancing zombies), some classic goth songs from Depeche Mode, the Cure, Concrete Blonde, Ministry, Sisters of Mercy, Wolfsheim, V&V Nation, but we also played a lot of top 40 and dance songs to keep the party going.

Gothic Victorian Styled Wedding

Wedding Design

We love good Halloween inspiration in all its forms, so this Victorian-inspired wedding shoot was right up our alley. Amanda Cowley Sweet Events and Eva Derrick Photography put together this sweet session in the heart of Canada, which blends the best of burgundy tones and Halloween spookiness.

From the planner, Amanda of Amanda Cowley Sweet Events: Staying true to traditional elements that come to mind when one thinks of Halloween was definitely the driving force behind our design & theme for this ‘Gothic Victorian’ inspired shoot. Incorporating classic details such as black lace, antique gold place settings, vintage wine coloured glassware, glitter dipped feathers and lush, fully saturated blood red florals helped pull our Gothic Victorian theme into the forefront, while just the right amount of black and ivory stripes added a fun Beetlejuice touch that any Halloween wedding so desperately deserves! Bookshelves chock-block with oddities and curiosities from a time long ago flanked our tasty yet terrifying candy display, where one could pick their poison of glossy sweets and sugary treats.

A black lace trimmed cake complete with sexy Gothic-inspired sugar skull mistress and the whole ensemble came together in horrifying harmony. Strategically styling our models around the theme pulled the whole shoot together, with our groom dressed dark and sexy yet casual in a fitted tuxedo stripped down to just the longer jacket, pants and dress shirt left undone. Our bride carried the Victorian element even further in a lace Allure gown with keyhole back, fabric covered buttons and lace trimmed mantilla veil. Blood red lips and a full floral crown complimented our bride’s dark features, which emphasized the Victorian theme. All of this taking place on the grounds of 140 year old Queen Anne Revival inspired Victorian Mansion in Niagara on the Lake; the images can almost transport you to a dark and eerie time, one of prestige, class and a definitive style. Our Gothic Victorian inspired shoot will inspire not only brides and grooms planning a Halloween wedding, but those with a soft spot for all things mysterious, sexy and simply stunning.

If anything, Halloween is known for being the most dramatic of holidays — full of rich colors, elegant costume, and packed with imagination. When Danielle Capito Photography and Twigss Floral Studio collaborated for a Halloween shoot, they knew they wanted to develop some ideas outside the box, and we love that they approached the holiday with a Victorian aesthetic in mind!

From the florists Melissa and Addison of Twigss Floral Studio: We know that a lot of brides don’t fit into the “traditional” category and what is more unique and different than a Halloween wedding? With this shoot we wanted to show brides that it is completely okay to be non-traditional when it comes to your wedding, the most important thing about your wedding is that it reflects you as a couple! We liked the idea of switching it up when it came to Cristina’s wedding attire, we started her off in a full length lace black gown and then put her in a creamy white sequined shorter dresses for her getaway outfit.

Instead of a wedding cake we did mini treats, cheeses and fruits with rustic bread. In our shoot we wanted to bring in the elements of the dark and hard lifestyle of the 20‘s and also add a few touches of that very stuffy luxurious life style 1900s. So we decided to turn our studio into a Victorian home and stage the wedding in the man of the house’s dark library study. We imagined him to be a smart man yet slightly eccentric, interested in many things and it shows by the items he keeps. We littered the desk and shelves with creepy botanical and scientific findings, maps, and pages of books scattered on the floor.

To add a really spooky element we not only scattered book pages on the floor we swept them up the walls so it looked like there were some unnatural forces in the study. We used very interesting foliage like begonia leafs, ferns, black calla lilies and lady slippers to add a touch of creepy and dark into the bridal bouquet and through out the rest of the shoot. This time of year is a great time to have a darker styled wedding, the colors that are available in flowers are dark and there are a lot of interesting fruits and berries to incorporate and add texture.

We couldn’t resist sharing a fun + quirky Hallowedding! April Smith Photography sent over this wedding which at first glance I thought was a fun shoot. Much to my delight, this wedding is 100% real. Just like the bride’s tattooed sleeve. All guests were encouraged to wear costumes, which was popular particularly with the kiddos!

One of the most amazing Fashion photoshoots in my opinion, “In memory of Mr. and Mrs. Comfort”, showed supermodel Nadja Auermann posing with skeletons, in outfits designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Issey Miyake, Thierry Mugler, Christian Lacroix, Comme des Garçons, Manolo Blanik, Maison Martin Margiela, Versace.
