Fresh Dallas Wedding
Few things make us love our job at Ruffled as much as when we see a lovely bride who’s all smiles on her wedding day — and lucky for us, we get to see quite a few of them! Bride Heylee is a perfect example, marrying her dream beau on a day captured by the wonderful Aaron Snow Photography. In case you’re crushing on Heylee’s dress as much as we are, know that she designed the dress herself and had her mother bring it to reality!
From the bride, Heylee: We wanted the day to really represent us and our relationship, which made for a laid-back, “no fuss” event. I’ve never been one who dreamed of an over-the-top wedding, so it was important that it was small enough to be intimate and relaxed. I also knew I wanted it to be creative and a little different than all the other weddings we’ve been to.
I wanted the whole event to have an earthy, organic feel, so we used as many natural elements as possible with a little sparkle thrown in here and there. I wouldn’t say I ever chose specific wedding colors, but we stuck with earth tones like grey, green, brown, ivory and gold. All of the decor was DIY by my family and I. I am extremely lucky to have many talented family members who were more than willing to help. My dad and brother-in-law did an amazing job of creating the altar, which they assembled out of tree branches. It made a huge statement at the ceremony and was one of my favorite parts of the wedding.
Some other DIY elements included the place card holders, table centerpieces which included succulent arrangements and candles, all the chalkboard signs and the lighted branches around the mantles. I designed my wedding dress and my incredible mom made it for me.
Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Don’t feel obligated to do things the traditional way if it doesn’t feel right to you. Many of the usual wedding traditions seemed a little silly to us, so we skipped them, and I’m really glad we did. The day goes by fast, so spend it exactly the way you want to.

when i first saw the grey, i thought it was going to be a little formal for my personal taste but nope! i LOVE the balance of relaxed elegance. soooo pretty but not stuffy.
the bride is adorable. loving her gown and the lipstick color too!
Loving her cocktail dress ! And such a beautiful set of photographs…
What beautiful detailing and colour palette choices. Almost a vintage ‘preppy’ look with the muted tones and simple styling. A wonderful example of understated vintage chic.
beautiful wedding! i love the advice about doing your own thing & skipping silly traditions. great post!
Real different from the usual different. Perfect.
The earthy tone of the wedding looks great. The paper pom poms and the cactus centre pieces are a great idea
