Frank Lloyd Wright Wedding Inspiration
Coming from a family of architects, it’s safe to say that I have a soft spot for Frank Lloyd Wright’s creations. So when I saw that Chelsea LaVere, Isha Foss Events, and Katy Blevins got together to design this styled shoot around Wright’s Cooke House in Virginia Beach, I got pretty darn excited. Most remarkable is how beautifully an architectural design can inspire genius wedding ideas:
From the photographer and concept designer, Chelsea LaVere: Union is a little bit 1960’s influence meets modern day. Completely inspired by The Cooke House, all of these incredible vendors used Frank Lloyd Wright’s lines, shapes, and forms in their respective artistry. It truly is one of a kind.
We affectionately called this shoot “Union” as it commemorates the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright and his touch of historical significance locally here in Virginia Beach. Wright strongly believed that the natural world and architecture should harmonize, and as such Virginia Beach’s own Cooke House exemplifies that philosophy. Wright designed this particular house to be built into the natural dunes which faces Crystal Lake, opposite of the Atlantic Ocean. His iconic hemicycle in the structure stays true to everything Wright stood for.
We loved having our bride and groom (a real married couple) as well as our Mother of the Bride and Junior Bridesmaid since they are rarely seen in stylized shoots but play such a special role in this shoot! With only 3 Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the whole state of Virginia, we are incredibly fortunate to have one in Virginia Beach. It is privately owned by Dan and Jane Duhl who graciously opened up their home to us for this shoot as they hope to share their historical property for small weddings.
