Colorful Keys Creek Wedding
This California wedding from photographer Clayton Austin is one of those that just stops me right in my tracks — and I’m inclined to think it’ll do the same for you! Add together some blue thistle, sequins, and some tissue paper and metallic tassel garlands, and you have a surefire winner! Oh, and imagine our surprise when we took a closer look at the bridesmaids’ dresses and saw that the pattern was flamingos, for no other reason than the fact that Austin calls Sarah “his flamingo”!
From the bride, Sarah: Austin and I wanted to throw a party that was different than any wedding we’d been to. We just wanted everyone to have fun and feel relaxed. Austin has more rustic taste, while I like glitz and glam, so we wanted to mix both of our styles together. So we found a rustic setting, and finished it up with glam elements like sequin tablecloths and gold silverware.
Our color scheme was orange, pink and gold. This started because I asked Austin early on what colors we should do, and he said “if I had to pick one color that describes us as a couple, it would be… orange” because its out of the norm and different. Like us 🙂
We did the save the dates and invitations, my mom and sisters made the signs, my sisters and I made the gift boxes (photo strip holders), and I made the tulle poufs that went on top of the mini cupcakes.
Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Have fun! It’s easy to get stressed and sweat the small stuff, but at the end of the day, it’s about you and your husband starting your lives together. And it’s a celebration! Just enjoy, and have fun together during the engagement. Our wedding planner kept reminding us of that, and we had so much fun planning and just being engaged. Austin and I both have very hectic schedules, but we picked activities to do together that play on our strengths- for instance Austin and I made our save the dates and invitations. He has a graphic design background so it was fun for him!
