Retro Brooklyn Wedding

Creative couples with vintage flair make the wedding world go round! Kevin and Dianna kept it homey on their wedding day, walking the short two blocks from their Brooklyn home to their nearby venue to exchange vows, laughter and hours of merriment with their closest friends and family. And, of course there’s no better way to celebrate than in your custom-designed sparkly pink wedding dress, in my opinion. Enjoy!

From the bride. We wanted the wedding to look, feel and represent our personalities. I think if one saw the style of our apartment and the style of this event, they would clearly be able to see that the same design sensibility went into both spaces. We wanted it to be a fun, lively, intimate, comfortable, and personal event for ourselves and for every single one of our guests.

The wedding was a warm mix of vintage and modern. It was fun, romantic, accessible, yet sophisticated. It was a perfect reflection of our own personal style and design sensibility. We wanted to make sure there was lots of varied color, with interesting textures, character, and personality in the designs.

We definitely wanted to have our wedding in Brooklyn, and ideally have the ceremony and reception at the same venue with the ceremony happening outdoors. We narrowed our search to restaurants of the proper size to handle our 50 guests with a great backyard for the ceremony. iCi quickly became the best choice because of their great facility (backyard garden for the ceremony, downstairs dining room for dinner, and upstairs banquet room for dancing), their experience, professionalism, delicious locally sourced food, beautifully designed spaces, and the added bonus that it is only 2 blocks from our apartment.

We created the flower arrangements using antique glassware, milk glass, and vases from Kevin’s grandparent’s antique store in Maine. Kevin’s mom made the tablecloths and ring pillow from fabric we bought in Manhattan.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Taking on so many DIY projects is very satisfying and you get to put your own stamp on the event, but make sure to not stretch yourself too much right before the event. Leave plenty of time to get ready and get some sleep the night before!
