Tuscan Inspired Microwedding In Southern California

Moss Velvet Brass Details Hummingbird Nest Ranch

Say ciao to the Tuscan inspired microwedding of your dreams! Rachel and Dan’s COVID-pivot was certainly a picturesque one. From the olive velvet linens and rustic cross-back chairs to the brass tabletop decor and warm, spice-toned blooms, we are digging these designs from Orange Blossom Special Events. The bold floral arrangements from Enchanted Garden Floral Design are exploding with color and texture from all angles, and we know you’re gonna be pinning every one of these shots from Jillian Rose Photography in no time. We hope R+D’s Southern California fête sheds some encouraging light on just how much you can achieve an Italian wedding aesthetic without traveling far!

From the Couple: Dan and I were initially planning a 250 person wedding weekend in Ojai for the Summer of 2020. Once Covid hit, we realized we had to pivot our plans like so many others and drastically cut our guest list.  We ultimately decided to re-design the entire affair into an intimate Fall wedding close to Los Angeles, where most of our family and friends live.  We fell in love instantly with Hummingbird Nest Ranch.  The property had the feeling like you were in the Italian countryside when you were only 30 minutes from Los Angeles.

For the flowers and décor we took a seasonal approach and embraced the Fall colors, foliage, and textures for both our ceremony and reception.  We went with a warm color palette with olive green velvet tablecloths, candles, muted colored flowers, and natural woods.  My absolute favorite part of the design was the canopy of twinkle lights that blanketed our reception.  The canopy made it feel like you were in a cozy tent under the stars and created an intimate ambience for all of our guests.

We tried to incorporate some personalized touches to make the experience memorable for everyone.  For example, we started out the reception with a self-choreographed dance to our first song, “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys, and we gave each guest our favorite dessert as a party favor – homemade chocolate chip cookies baked by my mother.  The most important thing for us was that we celebrate our love with our family and friends.  For most of our guests, this was the only wedding they went to this year and we wanted to make sure that everyone had an amazing time. Weeks later we are still reminiscing about how much fun we had and how beautiful the whole weekend was.
