Sawtooth Mountains Elopement
Ah the elopement, how we love you so. Newlyweds Britt and Alan wanted a relaxed, intimate wedding ceremony amidst the Sawtooth Mountain range of Idaho, with nearly all details made by the bride herself to match her specifications perfectly. Photographer Megan Robinson came along to capture the day’s nostalgic country details, including the groom’s Wyatt Earp-inspired attire.
From the bride, Britt: I’ve always loved vintage and thus my wedding was inspired by the feeling of nostalgia. It was also quite influenced by my country roots and my cowboy father so we knew it just had to be cowboy boots for our nuptial footwear. I feel that I had a little bit of everything I wanted that day – birds, flowers, a vintage style wardrobe, flower embroidered boots, handmade detail items and the love of my life. I chose to make several items because I just could not find what I wanted – no one was selling what I had in mind.
I made Alan’s tie after his request for “what Wyatt Earp would have worn” was voiced. I made my veil from materials acquired from a quaint local fabric store and some leftovers from both my dress and Alan’s tie. Then there were the flowers. I simply don’t trust anyone to put together flowers the way I would have done it. Also, a local florist was not exactly handy in the Sawtooths or feasible on our time frame. If only I could work with flowers every day! I crave the creative outlet and it was the most rewarding and fun project I’d done in a while. To have everyone compliment the bouquet and be able to say I had created it was a wonderful bonus!
When Alan and I discovered each other we lived 300 miles apart. We met online but the first time we ever saw one another was at Redfish Lake in Stanley, Idaho. Our first date lasted three days where we camped, cooked, hiked and talked around a campfire. It was only fitting to return to Redfish nearly 2 years later to say our “I do’s” in that beautiful setting. We loved that we had a similar small and intimate experience at our wedding with only a handful of our closest friends and a lovely photographer to capture it all.

That is really stunning. I eloped 12 years ago to the countryside of Japan (see link to read about my story!), but we didn’t think about it in the full detail that you did, Britt. Way to go making it yours, without the hype 🙂

What a beautiful contrast with the very traditional dress and suit, but unexpectedly updated with little touches like the orange tie, and the bride’s boots and quirky fascinator. And the scenery isn’t bad either! Kudos to the couple for doing something different on their big day.

The Sawtooths are some of my favorite mountain ranges on earth! We visit them often as well as Redfish Lake. What a great job you did with the vintage feel – your gown and the Wyatt Earp tie! I love to see elopements in mountain locations.
