Chicago Loft Wedding

Newlyweds Kathleen and Brian wanted their wedding to be a mix of a little bit tradition with a heap of modernity, so what did they do? They exchanged wedding vows in a grand basilica and housed their wedding reception in an urban loft space, of course! iLuvPhoto was there to capture the day’s events, including an incredibly fresh pink, orange, and green pops that we’re positively crazy about.

From the bride, Kathleen: I called our wedding style modern romance. Just like everyone says, we wanted our wedding to be like us. So we took a modern approach that’s rooted in tradition by getting married in a basilica and then having our reception in a loft space. We loved the idea of pairing our minimalistic, clean-lined, venue with lots of hot colors, warm lighting and romantic texture.

I would describe the look of our wedding as black, white, and bright. Our theme was modern romance and our color scheme was fuchsia, orange, and silver with tones of hot pinks, purples, corals, and red. We had lots of fun DIY projects with our favorite being printing and framing pictures of our engagement session with our dogs and cat to display at the reception. Other DIY projects including printing and assembling favor donation card to PAWS Chicago, and our invitations.

I had no idea how crafty my fiancé was until I saw how much better he was a cutting and pasting silver paper ribbons to hold our invitation reception, and response cards together! We also did all designing and printing at home for menus, favor donation card to PAWS Chicago, table cards and escort cards. I also painted a box with silver glitter for our guests to insert advice to the bride and groom cards, as our guest book.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? I wish I had invested in a Day of Coordinator or even splurged on a Wedding Planner for those details that didn’t really interest me. Follow those timelines that are you see everywhere. Delegate, assign, and follow-up with all those people that offer help. Have fun with it and don’t take it so seriously. It’s a very important day, but it is just one day.
