Intimate Minnesota Wedding
I’m a total sucker for a good intimate wedding. As a wedding photographer herself, bride Elisabeth knew from past experience that she wanted to keep her wedding small. With a gorgeous family farm setting and images by Simply Rosie, we’re smitten with the results of her tireless DIY work!
From the bride, Elisabeth: I always knew my wedding would be at the family farm where I grew up. Our farm is along the Red River in Minnesota with a beautiful barn and fields. With this landscape already, we didn’t need to do much else! We wanted a laid back country wedding feel with hayrides, campfire s’mores and a picnic dinner. Ribs, potatoes & beans were served. The guests sat on haybales during the ceremony as the sun set. The barn was decorated with a touch of gold and elegance with wildflowers from the fields nearby.
Our stationery was hand painted by my mom. We cut out gold wrapping paper to make the bunting we hung with the lights in the barn. We hand dipped the root beer bottles into gold and pink paint and let them drip. I spray painted all the little farm animals gold for the name places. We made our own tables for the guests to eat on out of the barn wood that was always stored in our barns. Any of the extra decorations were from my own house — being a photographer, I have plenty of little props to style with! The gold paperclip fringe on the sweetheart table was made by my little sisters. Let’s just say that was a tedious and time-consuming job. I am so grateful to my family for all the help. And also our large friend network of creative, helpful DIY people — we couldn’t have done it without them. It was a fun wedding to plan!
Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t be afraid to have a small wedding. As a wedding photographer, I looked back on my favorite weddings to shoot- one of them had 16 people in attendance. When considering a small private wedding, I had wives tell me to go for it and that they wished they would’ve done the same. While we kept ours to just family, it was still around 60 people. It really was perfect.

Wedding Location: Red River, MN / Photographer: Simply Rosie / Wedding Dress: My own dress was from the first local dress shop we went into. I didn’t want anything too elegant as it was a barn wedding. Something simple and classic. A little secret – it was $100 😉 / Bridesmaids’ Dresses: Ruche, H&M, Forever 21
Super cute!! Love the rustic family farm idea. Hayrides was a great touch. Was the furniture and decor pieces rented or was that from the family farm as well??
These photos are stunning! i loved every shot! great set up too! such beautiful colours and styling 🙂
The rustic theme makes this wedding! Beautiful colors
What an admirable pictures, a real glimpse of life. Every time, I see these pictures, it reminds me my marriage ceremony. Something very special is extracted from life.
THis is 100% the wedding I dreamed of as a child. THIS is what I envisioned! My dreams have changed somewhat since then but I LOVE seeing this fantasy I always had come to life! It’s amazing and gorgeous and they did such an incredible job! I can just see how much fun everyone had just through these few images!!!
Any chance the property could be rented for other weddings? My fiance would be very interested! 🙂
Gorgeous!!!! Most amazing photos, love it! I live in St Paul, MN and am looking for a farm venue exactly like this! Does this farm rent out for weddings?
I thought this wedding was catalog worthy! That barn was decorated gorgeously, and I loved the Chevron table piece. This type of Wedding is so in right now, and featured on Pinterest everywhere, but I thought this was just too cute for words! It seemed like there were so many sweet little details that just pulled the entire thing together.
Also, the fact that the Bride’s dress was found at a local store is so great. I love all her ideas and her modesty about the entire thing, even though its ridiculously brag-worthy!
I love the ring box. I have seen similar ones in antique stores but they are bigger and not so cylindrical. Could you share where you got it? What that style of box is called?
Where did you purchase the groom’s vest?
