Handmade French Countryside Wedding

No surprises here, Ruffled loves international weddings — especially when they’re in the French countryside! 70 kilometers outside of France lies the village Boisset-les-Prevanches, where this bride and groom held their nuptials with the aid of One and Only Paris Photography. Maëlis, the bride, was an avid reader while planning her wedding and is sharing their beautiful DIY wedding with us today!

From the bride, Maëlis: From the start, we envisioned our wedding as a wonderful summer day, with friends and family enjoying themselves in a chilled-out atmosphere. We fell in love with a beautiful country-house in Normandie, and created the decor from here. I sought out a lot of inspiration online, especially on the US blogs – Ruffled being one of my main sources! – but I also meant to craft in a French touch. I was so thrilled that I opened my own blog on the latest trends for French brides.

We wanted our wedding to be truthful to who we are as a couple, so we incorporated a lot of us in it, like a homemade chutney as a favor for our guests. We did everything ourselves, from the flowers to the escort-cards! I can’t thank enough my husband for going along with all (well, almost 🙂 of my crazy ideas, like having actual moss on the tables. My Mom was a great help too, scouting antiques markets in every part of France and doing an amazing job with the flowers. Audrey and Anthony beautifully captured all of it!

  • What a lovely wedding dress! We’re also fans of the exquisite “BRIDE” sign, as well as the fact that the bride sought wedding inspiration from Ruffled. We’re married, but had we discovered this blog during our planning days, we’d certainly have learned a lot from it. As it is, we refer a number of brides this way for ideas of what’s possible beyond the traditional.

  • Love this wedding. The attitude, the gracious décor, all the lovely elements. I bet their guests felt very welcome and happy to be there. And oh, THAT DRESS!!! I die.

  • beautiful wedding…simple, yet so elegant…i dream of having some kind of outdoor gathering like this…you did a beautiful job…love your wedding dress by the way…

  • What a beautiful wedding. Such unique and different ideas from the traditional wedding, and absolutely beautiful. Photography was wonderful showing all details. Congratulations on a lifetime commitment

  • Thank you all so much ! It’s such a bliss to read all your lovely comments and revive those wonderful moments ! And to see that I’m not the only one in love with this dress 😉

@AC: I’m so glad you say that ! Having people spend a good time really was one of our main concerns 😉
@The Bride Next Door: you’re a doll 😉 miss you by the way !

  • HAHAHA ce n’est un mariage français que par le lieu et les personnes !!!!! Où se trouve la touche française entre les étiquettes en anglais, le gâteau bien ricain, et la pub pour coca…….. ???!!!!!

  • I’m a huge fan of Maelis’ blog, La Fiancée du Panda, and I’m totally in love with her gorgeous wedding full of little cute details. Their cake looks amazing (yeah I’m a food lover so what? :-)), the centerpieces are a delight and those two looks so much in love!
Also, it’s a bliss to see a french wedding on your blog! I’m a hug fan and I’ve been reading it on a daily basis for more than a year now! Great job!

@Lechat (ou le débat sur l’identité nationale appliqué au wedding) : tu te sens moins français(e) quand tu bois du coca et quand tu manges un cupcake ? C’est quoi pour toi un mariage “français” au juste ?

  • So very lovely – dress especially divine !! Love the lace – well of course I do!
Brides hair is so beautiful. (Sorry groom – yours is nice too)
Venue looks amazing – the light both day and evening must have been wonderful.
My sister got married in France – still dreaming about it !!

  • What a gorgeous wedding! I love the moss on the tables and am considering it for my own. I heard that moss can be smelly. Did you encounter this?

  • Hi Katy,
Nope, no smell to complain about ! But we did have an issue with the moss being too humid when we put it in place the day before. On a couple of tables, the moist had spread on the table clothe and we had to wash it in emergency !! I think this can be prevented by letting it dry in the sun a couple of hours before (or having your vendor do it).
