Estates of Sunnybrook Wedding
We were absolutely tickled pink when we saw this wedding from the incredible Nancy Da Costa of Mango Studios. Newlyweds Jennifer and Jordan wanted to have a relaxed wedding reminiscent of 1950s cocktail parties, and we think it’s safe to say they achieved that! Keep an eye out for subtle pops of yellow and gray-blue in the bridesmaids dresses from BHLDN.
From the bride, Jennifer: We wanted the evening to reflect us, with a vintage 50’s inspired cocktail party. We wanted our guests to be relaxed so there was not a lot of formality. I didn’t really have one or two colours that everything matched. I just tried to keep within a palette I had chosen. Originally I wanted my bridesmaids in all different vintage dresses but it proved to be too hard and expensive to find so I picked the dress and they picked the colour.
I am a potter and have also gone to school for cooking. I made all the bud vases for the tables and the cake tiers. My Mum and I made the cupcakes and she made all the preserves for the favours. My brother in law is a wiz with design so he designed all of our labels and invitations. Oh and I made my bird cage veil.
We had originally decided to get married at Jordans parents house but took one tour of the McLean House at the Estates of Sunnybrook in Toronto and fell in love. It just fit so well with our 50s cocktail theme so well and I knew I wouldn’t have to do much decoration. There is a bit of nostalgia as well, Jordan’s Aunt and Uncle had been married there 16 years ago 🙂
Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? We had just over a year to plan and I loved every minute of it. I was not stressed for even a moment. My husband and I just tried to spread everything out so we weren’t doing too much in the last month. Try to savor every moment because it is only one day and it goes by far too fast.
