Crafty Los Angeles Wedding
Alex and Helen’s wedding is the perfect batch of creativity, a day which Helen lovingly refers to as “Our Joyous Day”. The theme of their day was “AH, that’s love” — also the name of Helen’s blog — a tribute to the acronym of their names, Alex and Helen. Christian Cruz knocked these photographs way out of the park. Capturing the ceremony and reception at LA’s own Heritage Square, all coordinated by Danni Hong, who you may also know her from Oh, Hello Friend blog!
From the bride, Helen: I love all things vintage, particularly from the 1940s. Our wedding was 40s-inspired, and our color scheme consisted of my favorite colors: buttercup yellow, French blue, and cherry red. We also incorporated vintage books and library-inspired trinkets, since I am a high school English teacher and my mister is a pastor. When we found our venue, I fell in love with the intricate details and spaciousness of the Victorian house museum that had plenty of room for a ceremony, reception, guestbook area, photobooth lounge, board games & croquet area, and more. I love details and handcrafting lovely things, so our Joyous Day was a huge handmade affair that I supplemented with vintage decor from my apartment and things I collected from flea markets.
We were very fortunate to have a wonderful community of friends and family who were so willing to help with our wedding. We aimed for a budget of $15,000, and ended up spending about $17,000 for a 250-person wedding. Many friends helped to craft for the wedding, and most of our vendors were friends, including our photographer, videographer, florist, DJ, officiants, day-of coordinator, ceremony band, barbershop quartet, reception jazz band, first dance singer, etc. We are so thankful for their sacrificial hearts that made this wedding possible. Executing this wedding has taught us that our relationship is lovingly shaped by our dearest friends and family, and we cannot have a thriving marriage without them in our lives. Our Joyous Day was truly a celebration of love all around!
