Heirloom Wedding Ideas

Weddings are as much about the couples as they are about the families. An homage to them is only natural as you welcome new family members, and using family heirlooms is one of our favorite ways to honor them. So once these gorgeous images by Laura Murray styled by Jessica of A Vintage Affair Rentals fell on our laps, we were in love. And with dream flowers by Pink Posey Design, how could we not?

From the event stylist, Jessica of A Vintage Affair Rentals: The theme was antique sophistication and our color palette was deep, rich colors – wild raspberry, fern green, and dark plum. We played a bit with global pieces, tying in a love story. The candlesticks were my husband’s grandfather’s. He picked them up in England when he was stationed over there during WWII. Near the end of the war, he sent them back to the States to his wife, with a love note saying he heard new that the war was close to an end… and to save the candlesticks for their first meal back home together.

The calligraphy envelopes play into that story – and is also reflected in the hand drawn details of the cake. The carved wooden trays were purchased in Italy 60 years ago by my husband’s grandmother. The dress is a Claire Pettibone piece from Little White Dress with French lace accents. The vintage cameo ring is meant to compliment the oval shapes in the dress. The cake backdrop was made with old book pages and vintage vanity mirror trays.
