Moonrise Kingdom Wedding Inspiration By the Lake

We’re talking the Moonrise Kingdom wedding inspiration you’ve been waiting for – complete with a lakeside tent, oar backdrop and color palette that totally fits the part. We get to see 3 nature-loving couples embrace the beauty of this woodsy setting and are pretty darn thrilled to be putting this out in the universe. Ruffled member, Erin of Filosophi Events, is the stylist of this epic camp wedding inspiration. We love the way she elevates the rustic details with thought, precision and plenty of beauty. Every element of these designs has a purpose, and we truly can’t get enough!

Together, Green Leaf Floral Design and Blossom and Vine Floral Co designed the botanical details, employing dusty pinks and honey hues with dried foliage in every shape + texture.
From the planner, Filosophi Events: This shoot was put together for the Camp Collective – a 3-day creative gathering for photographers that’s equal parts workshop, retreat and outdoor school. So it was pretty simple to make the choice of wanting to incorporate a camp theme. That being said, the last thing we wanted to do was bring a stereotypical rustic wedding vibe as that seemed so predictable. Instead, we decided to draw inspiration from Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. I didn’t want to make it a super specific “theme”, but did want to embrace the quirky beauty and deliberate attention to detail of the movie.
We can’t imagine a better chair for this table than these industrial metal ones from Bold Event Creative.
In particular, the colours are a clear tribute to Wes’s work, as well as a few little vague clues pulled from the movie such as the incorporation of the oars, arrows and the little mustard yellow tent place cards. The place card design is one of my favourite details – we always reference placecards as ‘tent cards’ so it was a little funny touch to us to make the place cards into actual tents, with door flaps and all. In the end, we wanted to inspire that rustic does not have to mean mason jars, burlap and neutrals every time, and where we ended up was a nicely curated, carefully crafted, relaxed elegance but still laid back enough to suit the location and its vibe.
How clever are these paper goods from Domestic Embellishment ?! We’d be framing that sketched map and flag-shaped RSVP for sure… even as a guest!

For the models, we used real couples, each very different with a style all their own and it was a fun challenge to style them in a way they were comfortable with while still making all three couples cohesive with the decor and setting.
Cora’s Cake Shop is the master behind these sweet treats – the sugar bark might be our personal fave!
