Welsh Floral Wedding Inspiration

There’s no better way to cheer up my day than with some breathtaking floral design, and Forbesfield Flowers delivered just that in this styled inspiration shoot from Wales. Ryan Welch Photography worked his magic behind the camera, bringing his fashion photography expertise to make this wedding shoot something special to remember!

From Beth of Forbesfield Flowers: Ryan and I met a few years back thanks to a mutual bride and we immediately established a shared ideal on aesthetics, especially in relation to weddings and all they involve. It was only recently, when I moved my business from a retail shop to a studio space on the balcony of a Victorian arcade, that we realised we had the perfect location for a photo shoot. The idea took flight from there.

Working in careers saturated in weddings, the vision and inspiration for this shoot, rather peculiarly, came as much from what we didn’t want as what we did want. We knew that we did not want to go down a well trodden path and felt that we had to offer something new and alternative to make it worth doing. Classic luxury has long since been out of fashion with weddings and so this was the starting point. So, out were apple-cheeked, pink-lipped, blushing brides and in were vamp-lipped, heavily styled locks and sultry attitudes. Out were ‘freshly picked from the garden’ flowers and in were dense, decadent, showy floral creations. We were looking to create the luxury and opulence that many modern brides dismiss in favour of a DIY look, and show them that luxury does not mean tacky or camp. The indulgent elements were brought in from the flowers, hair, makeup and dresses whilst the pared back, spartan backdrop gives a cool, modern edge.

Ryan clearly brings his fashion photography back ground to the shoot, moving away from the usual wedding photography style and bringing something that appears more at home in a glossy, fashion magazine. Bring into this the metallics used in both the cake and invitations and the scene is set for a wedding that takes place amidst exquisite luxury and crumbling grandeur. Strangely, it is the proximity of two such diverse aesthetics that creates a bewitching, enchanting quality to the final photographs. The final product is the vision recognised and at its most simple can be describes as “classic luxury goes modern.”
