Modern Greek Goddess Wedding Inspiration

Today’s wedding shoot features not only one of the most amazing gowns we’ve ever seen — a bejeweled light blue gown — but it also boasts the jaw-dropping scenery of Greece’s Methoni Castle. Laura Sponaugle Photography captured these incredible images during one of the Boheme Workshops which was styled by Tahnee Sanders of Celsia Floral, who also took the lead on floral design.

Tucked away on a Mediterranean cape in the remote southwest of the Greek Peloponnese stands Methoni Castle. This is a place of remembering, an historical crossroads that Greeks, Romans, Venetians, and Turks used as a base on their journeys to the eastern markets of the Levant. The massiveness of the castle – one of the oldest in Messenia – lends to a sense of awe as well as security, a combination that bespeaks enduring romance. Tapping into the quixotic vibe, Vasia and Therese chose this outcropping to stage an unforgettable styled shoot for the latest Boheme workshop. Coupled with Tahnee Sanders’ creative styling and the dazzling floral direction of Johanna from Celsia Florist of Vancouver, the team pulled together understated elegance inspired by the ruins of antiquity.

We encountered Alex and Dimitri on a late September afternoon on the Peloponnese. Resplendent light spilled onto the ancient walk supported by 14 stone arches. The walk led to a chapel, whose doors were draped with olive leaves, and the couple relaxed in the peace therein. Taking a moment for themselves, the couple wandered to the water’s edge. Like Botticelli’s Aphrodite birthed from foam, Alex’s Ciboni Ciboni dress mirrored the picturesque geography of the seascape. Frantzeska Koukoula’s hairstyle selection punctuated the dress, described as a mermaid tulle appliqué with silver metallic French lace, beaded Swarovski crystals, and silk organza petals. Frantzeska’s natural make-up was a perfect blend of chic and classic, a theme reflected in Dmitri’s suit by Zara. The table settings were deliberately simple, supplementing the love story rather than determining it. The gold-plaited flatware matched the candlesticks, which anchored the diaphanous flowers in the centerpiece. Natural elements such as olive branches, local flora, tulle, ribbon (by Stella Wolfe), and the rock of the fortress’s walls were selected to enhance the theme – beauty as a sensory experience.
