Floral Inspired Treehouse Wedding
Today’s real wedding falls under the category of “I just want to live inside this wedding.” Everything about it is sheer perfection, from the mismatched bridesmaid dresses to the signage done by the bride to the impeccable long-sleeve wedding gown. Cara Robbins Studio, Adore Folklore, and Native Poppy all did amazing work here!
From the bride, Sara: We wanted it to be a beautiful outdoor wedding with natural accents and a boho feel. We constantly referred to it as the “treehouse wedding” because of the location and the beautiful, 1920’s treehouse on the property. The farmhouse tables helped us achieve a more comfortable, ‘we’re all family here’ feel we were going for. I was very inspired by the colors found in kilim pillows and also felt very strongly toward incorporating floral elements.
I gave our florist Natalie a lot of freedom on the floral arrangements, my biggest request was the use of Eucalyptus. Not only do I love the look, but the scent is wonderful. I wanted the bridesmaids bouquets to be primarily Eucalyptus since their dresses were bright and floral. Natalie at Native Poppy couldn’t have captured my vision and floral dreams any more perfectly. The flowers were one of the loveliest parts of the wedding.
There were many DIY projects for our wedding, and I had so much fun creating personalized items to represent my husband and and myself. I painted over 30 wooden signs for the wedding, about half were directional signs, and the other half included: seating chart, table numbers, welcome signs, and venue directional signs to help guests navigate the property. Alex and I spent an evening creating our guest favors as well; we made essential oil sprays with a more natural woodsy scent blend for the guys, and a more floral blend for the gals. These were a favorite and I continue getting positive feedback and all the multitude of uses people seem to have for them. We also wanted a more natural and environmentally friendly alternative for our “getaway” so I hand packed over 200 small cloth bags with birdseed and stamped each bag with our wedding logo stamp. My wonderful Aunt helped package all of the S’mores boxes which we used natural fiber berry boxes and tied with a cream colored string and tag with our wedding logo. (The stamp was definitely one of our most used items of the entire wedding!) We also enjoyed picking out components for our tattoo parlor area; custom tattoos, antique bowls and a unique tattoo cabinet. Additionally we loved piecing together our DIY floral bar where guests could “take a flower and wear it” and create original bouts, hair pieces and wear them at the wedding. One of my favorite projects of the wedding was a washers game handmade by my 12 year old brother, he worked for months to carefully choose the wood, cut, stain, paint and create these boards for guests to enjoy at our wedding on the lawn space, it was one of the most used elements at our wedding!
Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Ask for help, but also don’t compromise on components you want to create personally. Talk to your future spouse and discuss all parts of the ceremony and reception. One of my favorite parts of this discussion for us was planning our ceremony, the song choice and deciding on a theme of “serving each other” helped us to create a better flow to our whole event and set a great tone for the rest of the night. Make sure that while you’re engaged, you have days or evenings where you don’t talk about wedding planning, it’s so easy to let the planning and styling and to-do lists take over your life and thoughts; and it’s so nice to have a break from this and just enjoy fresh conversation with your future spouse. It’s not all about the look, or the vibe, it’s about the relationship and two people who love one another; take moments to remember this!
Wedding Music:
Bridal Party Processional: “Future,” The Inlaws
Bride’s Processional: “Hung the Moon,” Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
Feet Washing: “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” Sufjan Stevens
Recessional: “Perfect Day,” Sophie Park
First Dance: “I’d Have to be Crazy,” Willie Nelson
We also decided to have other fathers-daughters and mothers-sons join us for the last half of our respective dances. This added such a unique moment to be able to share these moments with others and see their joy sharing these precious moments with us.
From the photographer, Cara Robbins: Sara and Alex are some of the sweetest people I’ve worked with as a photographer. They met while attending Baylor College and currently live in the Bay Area. Sara is definitely a DIY girl and did all the beautiful lettering and signage on her own (just wait til you see it). She also worked closely with her Florist (Native Poppy) to create a unique and beautiful color palette for her florals – of which there were a lot! As a photographer there were tons of beautiful details from the venue itself which does have an actual treehouse that the bride got ready in, to the perfectly mismatched bridesmaids dresses, Texas pride groomsmen socks, and an emphasis on family and friends. Their wedding cake was baked by a close friend of the bride and bride’s little brother created an original game for guests to play during the reception. Overall it was a beautiful day, Sara was very excited about photography and even opted to have me shoot medium format film which is always a good idea. They gave me complete freedom as far as where and when we could do photos and I think it completely paid off. This was one of my favorite weddings I got to be a part of this year!
I think this is one of my favorite weddings I’ve seen. I love how mismatched everything is, and I really liked the Tye-dyed table cloth!
treehouse wedding, sounds very romantic and I love the wedding bouquets, so beautiful and creative.
Btw her wedding dress is superb too.
